I’m trying to decide if I should use level helper or level director. I currently have windows, but I will have mac in next couple months. I don’t really want to have to wait for my mac to start development. Is level director just as good as level helper? and do I really need any of them or do they really expedite my development time? Any suggestions?
Hi,
I’m the author of Level Director and just noticed your post and thought I would comment.
To start, Level Helper is a great tool and I would never tell anybody not to buy it.
Rather than do a comparison of the two I just thought I would give you 3 reasons why I created Level Director.
-
I do not own a MAC and there were limited tools to help Windows users.
-
My initial requirement was for creating scenes/pages not game levels so for example a title screen and wanted an easy way to layout my images.
-
I did not require an engine, api or dependency on other tools just a simple export to lua code that I could understand.
Once I created the tool to do the above I realized the potential and then extended it to support assets, physics, Bezier curves, paths, joints, templates and parallax scrolling so it has grown (and still growing) into a very powerful tool but still tried to keep it simple.
I cannot argue that Level Helper is probably the more advanced tool but if you’re looking for a low cost, rapid-development tool-set for windows then maybe Level Director will meet your needs.
I actually have customers that use both!
Not that I’m trying to tempt you ;o) but Level Director has 15% off until April 12th by using the code 15OFF at the checkout, or you can always try it for free (http://www.retrofitproductions.com/level-director/).
Thanks!
