Lite version of Corona SDK Simulator

Ok, I’ve been thinking about this for the last week and decided to go ahead and post it.

Since I don’t have a full-time developer playground (job) I have the need to do code work where ever, when ever I can.

Here’s my brainiac idea (Carlos):

Provide a Lite version of the simulator that doesn’t do anything but simulate and run a terminal (Mac) window for the different devices so it can be installed (or just ran) off a flash drive. Both a Mac and PC version.

Carlos, would it be that hard to nip the code to provide this to the community?

I can’t be the only one out here that could benefit immensely from its inception.

The reason I’m asking is it’s hard to do work on code and not be able to see the immediate result. Ideas come and go all day long and the creative juices need to be squeezed when they happen.

Has anyone ever asked for this before?

Please, please, please, please fulfill this request.

Did I say, PLEASE???

Thanks,

I may be dense, but what exactly are you asking for? [import]uid: 71767 topic_id: 23132 reply_id: 92484[/import]

I would like to be able to take the simulator/terminal on a flash drive in my pocket. No frills or builds, just the simulator and terminal for “print” and debugging.

Seems a fairly simple thing me thinks.

I think that would be contrary to Corona’s whole “authorized computers” scheme. [import]uid: 71767 topic_id: 23132 reply_id: 92496[/import]

Ok, here’s how I would do that with the remedies at my disposal:

My netbook (Lenovo S10-3t) runs Linux Mint KDE. I can run it more or less through wine there. Check out my other thread for more on that: http://developer.anscamobile.com/forum/2012/03/11/definitive-linuxwine-thread

If you just want to run the simulation, you can open a new account and go with a trial version. It doesn’t build, but if you have a netbook with a touch screen, you’re pretty much golden.

As far as I know, running Corona trial version off a flash drive shouldn’t be difficult, just move the files there after installation. [import]uid: 117153 topic_id: 23132 reply_id: 92501[/import]

Anyone that downloads the trial version has the ability to run the simulator, they just can’t build. Which as it should be.

So, your problem is that you want to be able to test your app _on your device_ from your work PC? Why not just settle for the simulator at work and test it when you get home? And you can authorise 2 computers with your license, why not just authorise your work PC as well? You can always de-authorise it if you need to. If your work machine has Windows 7, that comes with a virtual Windows XP thing that lets you work with an ‘XP on a flash drive’ sort of thing.
You could install inside that.

You could buy a netbook for about 150 dollars.

But fair warning: I personally know 5 guys who have been fired for doing personal development work during office hours. It’s so tempting.
Some places even have a clause to say ‘you code it , we own it’

I can’t make any promises at all but I can make sure this gets seen - will bring it up in next meeting. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23132 reply_id: 92527[/import]

Misfisk, I didn’t see your earlier thread. I’ll give it a try with the installed files.

Thanks,

Misfisk,

I installed on a PC and copied the installation folder onto the flash drive.

The first time I opened the simulator it asked for a login. I used an alternate for the trial version.

It worked on the PC just fine. So, the “mobile” simulator is already in the bag!

Thanks for bringing that method up. I’m surprised I didn’t try it before posting as a lot of different programs will work this way. Oh, the “terminal” window for debugging works well also!

Cheers,

I think it’s possible my shoes don’t fit your feet

Anyone that downloads the trial version has the ability to run the simulator, they just can’t build. Which as it should be.

What it would accomplish is the ability to work on your code, say, from your flash drive anywhere you might be. As in my case, while I’m at my 9-5 when I don’t have access to my “authorized” computer.

Sometimes during a break I have the need to “test” and idea.

I guess you could call it a “mobile” simulator.

I’m a firm believer that no one should be able to build that hasn’t become a full fledged paying member of the community (subscriber).

Maybe only subscribers could have access to the “mobile” simulator ???

I just have a need to be able to work on code at a PC while I’m at my 9-5 and don’t have access to my “authorized” computer and think this is a doable idea.

I just can’t see myself being the only person that has this need.

Thanks,

Ok, tested it on another PC.

The only drawback is it authorizes on the PC you open the simulator on. You have to deauthorize it to use it on a different PC.

That seems like a step that you shouldn’t have to do if it is installed on a flash drive.

Let’s wait and see what Peach can accomplish.

Cheers.

Getting it seen is all I can accomplish in this case; I don’t believe any kind of scenario where you don’t need to authorize is likely I’m afraid :frowning: [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23132 reply_id: 94217[/import]
