Looking for a TestFlight service for Android... anyone with experience with HockeyApp or others?

Hello,

New to Corona, with a Basic account. Now that TestFlight no longer supports Android, I was looking at HockeyApp as a beta testing service.

It looks like I need to access to AndroidManifest.xml file to include the HockeyApp code snippets for their analytics tools, which I don’t believe I have without a more advance Corona account.

Is the correct?

Any experience with HockeyApp or other Android services would be appreciated.

I did a search in this forum as well as google but couldn’t find anything.

Thank you,

Check out Test Fairy and Appaloosa. Both can use the APKs Corona builds without modifying the manifest.

Thanks jmaher,

I’ll check those out. I got HockeyApp to distrubtion, download and install my apk, but I don’t think I can use all of their features, like the crash reporting and analytics  without adding code to the manifest.

Have you use either of those services you mentioned? Is there one that you prefer of the two you mentioned?

Thank you,

Ray, I’ve tried the free tiers of both services. By default, Test Fairy will add their own analytics code to your APK when you upload. It allows for pretty advanced analysis, including screenshots of your testers’ sessions. However, each tester must “login” with an email address when launching your app, and that email account has to be active on the device. There is apparently a way around this by uploading from the command line. Appaloosa has VERY basic analytics (not very useful) at their free tier - not sure about paid.

Thanks jmaher.

If I ending testing out a paid level of service with any platform, I’ll let you now how it goes.

Thank you,

Did you consider the Google Play Alpha and Beta testing method? Its very convenient for test users.

I have not tried it out, but it is on my list too!
