Lua Version

I’m new to Corona and wondering what to expect regarding Corona’s support of Lua Versions. I see that Corona currently runs on Lua 5.1. When should I expect it to move to 5.2?

Thanks.

Rick

@Rick,

I don’t speak for Corona Labs, but I would not expect an update to 5.2 any time soon.  From what I’ve read it only adds one useful feature (bitwise operators) and some of the changes would entail significant modification to the Corona SDK to ensure backward compatability.  Specifically the change to globals might be troublesome.

Are you looking for some feature in particular or just curious?  If it is the prior, please say what it is.  We (the community) at large might be able to help with an alternative means of achieving said feature.

Thanks gamer. I was just curious. I’m about to write a new app. I prototyped it in Corona in order to learn Corona. Now, I’m deciding whether to commit to Corona for the actual app. I don’t need anything specific from 5.2, just looking to understand the Corona development cycle.

You’re welcome.  As far as Corona Labs’ development cycle?  I think they are focused on expanding the feature base and staying up-to-date with the latest trends and features. i.e. If a new feature becomes relevant in one of the app stores they do their best to support it.  Likewise, they are constantly innovating and expanding features (plugins, the upcoming graphics 2.0 engine, etc.)

Hopefully I’m not sounding like a sycophant here, but I think they work hard to stay fresh and are doing a pretty good job.
