Mac Apps/Desktop Apps

Is there going to be the ability to create mac/desktop apps at any point? I seem to remember a long time ago there was a corona video saying it was going to happen.

This is one of the most commonly requested features and in the past we’ve said it’s something we want to do.  However, building for other platforms is very difficult.  It’s still on our want to make happen list.  Getting plugins working was part of the battle, but there is more to do before we get there.  We have to continue to service our core, the mobile development world first.

Until this feature is included in Corona you can use another LUA based framework called Löve https://love2d.org/

We are using it to port our Corona Games to Windows/Mac - the syntax is pretty similar and once you have understand the basics you can easily use it for your projects  (completely free to use)

Wasn’t corona levels being coded with an inhouse version of corona sdk that produced Mac apps

Is Mac App totally abandoned or still available in the future?

I can’t stop thinking using Corona to build Mac apps.

If it’s not going to happen, please let me know now. I will find other solution instead.

Thanks.

I’m going to copy our official stance on this from the Feedback site (http://feedback.coronalabs.com)

Admin note:
While we agree that this feature would be great to have, we also have to
weigh it against the sheer amount of work it represents. Supporting a
new platform is actually a huge deal. And even though our simulators
currently run on Mac/Windows, the amount of work to fully support
shipping apps on those platforms is very substantial. Not to mention the
ongoing support.

So, while we will eventually support these new platforms, it is
clearly not something we can do quickly just because it got a bunch of
votes. It is useful to see that many people are voting for it, but we
just want to be clear about that and manage expectations.

We have other priorities that we are currently working on at the moment.  I don’t know what time frame you are expecting to deliver your Mac Apps, but as that says we eventually want to, but we have other priorities we have to get done first.  You should consider other options if you want to release apps sooner than later.

I saw Mac App was also in Corona 2012 road map: http://coronalabs.com/blog/2012/05/24/corona-roadmap/

So I thought it was more than a feature request but something you had decided to do & deliver

It looks like it’s still in the plan but without any date on it. Perhaps 3, 5, 10 years… or never.

I can understand the concerns about limited resources & priorities. On off-topic thing, I would choose Mac App over Windows Phone App

The original video I saw is here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9UX0ZMk9lk

I do realize that the current system has to be kept up and maintained, as well as expanded. Windows Phone will be a great addition. But Windows and Mac desktops need to be covered. I have been using Corona since late 2011, and I am very happy with everything about it. We have a couple of apps on the store, and a huge release almost done for a client that is more of a business app. This same client has a few ideas they want developed for a couple of games, but cross platform mobile/desktop is going to be real critical for them. I will check out the Love2D that CineTek recommended above, but realistaclly I would much rather be able to do it all from within Corona SDK. Along these lines… I would also be willing to work with a Alpha or Beta team if there is even the slighter bit of code ready to start down the desktop path.
