MacInCloud

Can anyone (PC) that has developed for Ipad/Iphone on their PC and used the MacInCloud to ‘build’ the code from their PC thru the MacInCloud into an Ipad/Iphone app, answer a question or two for me.

  1. The site offers a $20 a month for 3 hours a day access or $50 a month for full day use.
Can I continue to code on Corona on my PC (and test in simulator as an Ipad) and then only need to access the MacInCloud just when I am ready to ‘build’ files into an Ipad/Iphone app? If so, I do not see needing the MacInCloud for that full day acces of $50 a month.

  2. Any quirks or issues that anyone using this process has experienced?

I do not know of anyone using the service right now, i would love to hear some feedback also. That being said i am going to use this service in around 3 weeks once our android version is released. From what i understand, it should not be a problem coding on your pc and then putting it in the cloud to build and port to your device since you can just throw it on dropbox or another ftp program. I am going to get the 50$ subscription just in case though, i mean whats 50$ in the grand scheme of things, sure beats 1000 lol. [import]uid: 126161 topic_id: 24981 reply_id: 101408[/import]

Thanks for the info. It sounds like it should work okay. Just know how easily things may not interface as easily as advertised, or one may have to jump thru alot of hoops to make it work. I guess if things backfire, I will just have to run out and get a mini mac.

Good luck to you on your Android release and your eventual Ipad/Iphone release! [import]uid: 35148 topic_id: 24981 reply_id: 101447[/import]

I haven’t used this service, but one thing I wondered about was how would you debug a test app running on a device.

You can connect an iOS device to a Mac via the USB port, and the use Xcode to load the app and when the app is running you can see the console output. This sometimes has useful info, like if your app is causing memory warnings.

I know you can load the test app on an iOS device in Windows using iTunes. But I can’t figure out how you would see the console output without a Mac.

total newb here…

I saw a past thread mentioning MacInCloud and I gave it a try before I bought an AirBook.

I think I’m at 1.5 mb/sec on my broadBand connection, the whole experience was extremely laggy, did I mention I bought an AirBook?

Being a total newb, I’m sure others will get a chuckle imagining dealing with Xcode in an extremely laggy environment.

Oh, forgot to mention besides being a total newb, I’ve never owned a Mac…

So in order to build with Corona thru Xcode you need to have access to “utilities” to get at KeyChain. I didn’t have access to the utilities or KeyChain on my MacInCloud service. It may have been configurable if I submitted a ticket, not sure. The whole thing was so laggy it wasn’t worth any more of my time to experiment.

I’m sure a faster connection would improve the experience greatly, not sure if access to KeyChains is possible as I didn’t pursue it.

Working on a Mac is initially so different, but getting more used to it all the time. Still prefer my PC laptop with bigger display.

Hope this help, I’m sure most mileage will vary greatly from mine.
