Making a mobile game, not sure where to take the gameplay, I'd appreciate some ideas.

Hello all,

Not sure if it’s okay to ask it here but here it goes… I wanted to re-make a flash game I liked for learning to code and now I’m thinking about improving than releasing it. But I suck when it comes to creativity…

Here is the game in its most primitive state: Gif1 Gif2

It’s basically like this; The main objective is to keep the falling ‘enemies’ from colliding with the ‘turret’ which you shoot ‘balls’ from. You can buy different kind of auto-turrets, ball upgrades, bouncy platforms etc from the ‘item-table’ on the right.

I was thinking making the item-table, where you can buy all those stuff, spawn totally random upgrades on each play. They keep respawning randomly as you consume/buy them. And of course they spawn better as you progress thru the game. But I really can’t come up with a smart way to earn ‘points’ to spend on items. I made it so that the sooner you push the enemy out of the screen, and the bigger it is, the more points you get. But it is really not working… Not at all fun in my opinion.

My other problem is, there is no sense of progress so it gets boring really fast. I always liked simple games where you play for the high-score tables but I feel it is missing something… I thought about making a basic level system where you level up as you play. And as you level up you unlock more powerful items that you can buy while playing (spawns random again). What do you think? Or I can ditch the whole random thing and come up with a system of a global currency where you can spend points you earn on different gameplays. But I like the random…

Yeah that’s all for now I guess, I’d really appreciate if you guys lend me some ideas…
