marketplace payment currency

Hi,

I’m based in Europe. So my credit card currency is Euro. If i try to by a plugin from the marketplace, the only currency available for payment is the US dollar. This is so unfair for me and other devs in my situation because of the fees involved. I would end up paying much more than the asking price.

Let me explain.

If a US based developer (or any developer based in a country where their credit cards default currency is the US dollar) wants to pay for the admob plugin, for example, they pay 199 US dollars. For me and others like me we have to pay: 199 + fee for paying in dollar + unfair exchange rate + fee for currency conversion. All in all, it would be like paying 230 US dollars. How is that fair? (Not to mention the additional VAT we have to pay, but the is a totally different matter.)

I contacted corona to try to pay with paypal because their exchange rate is very good and don’t charge fees for paying in different currency. But, corona’s paypal account is suspended ever since Appodeal bought corona (don’t know why).

Could someone from corona please look into this and allow payments in different currencies?

Many thanks

Hello @luaykanaan.  I understand your frustration. We have no control over the Euro VAT and exchange rates.  We can’t discount our prices.

As far as PayPal, please check back with support@coronalabs.com, I think we’ve had progress in that front.

Rob

@rob: my issue is not the VAT. It never was the VAT. My issue is corona only accepting US dollar in their payment gateway.

Anyway, i’ll check back with support regarding Paypal.

Thanks

not sure where in europe you are located but i dont pay any specific fees for payments made in other currencies, not counting possible exchange rate addons, though I cant say i’ve noticed that.

also, im successfully using paypal.

you cant really expect corona, or any other company for that matter, to accept payments in other currencies.

thats just not how world economy works.

last time i checked, ad revenues and store sales from both google and apple are in us dollar, though they may show up with an exchange rate, which can be both in your favour or not.

Our marketplace presents its pricing in USD, but I believe we use a service that converts to whatever currency you’re using during checkout.  We just don’t know what currency to use until you check out and we have your locale.

Rob

@rob: Thank you, thank you, thank you for understanding what i am talking about (i really thought i didn’t explain my point clearly).
And thank you again for informing me that paypal is accepted again.

Since we are talking about the checkout page, please see my attached screenshot. It doesn’t work totally as you expect. It detected my locale and applied the correct VAT, but the currency remained US dollars. I filled all the fields hoping that that may trigger a change in currency, but no change. Clicking ‘proceed’ will verify my credit card details and charge it in USD.

I’ll mention this to our team working on Marketplace 2.0. Since we are spending our server team energy on MP2.0 right now, I doubt we would go back and address this with the existing MP.

Rob

@rob: OK. Thanks
