media.selectPhoto() + Improvement request please

Hi Corona,

The media.selectPhoto api is great to select one image at a time, but when you need to build an app that needs the selection of multiple photos it is impossible to proceed with this. The user experience to select one image at a time is a showstopper.

I know, that with enterprise, it would be possible to build such a plugin, but I would like to know if Corona could simply enhance the current API and offer the ability for iOS and Android the ability to request multiple images at the same time.

Hi Nick,

We are definitely aware of this request and it has 60+ votes in our feedback system. I’ll prompt the engineers to explore what is involved with implementing this cross-platform and what the potential complexity is (remember that Android typically has a variety of different media selectors/browsers and there is inconsistency between them, which may be why this feature was not implemented before now).

If you haven’t already added your votes to this topic, please do so to boost it up…

Thank you Brent for jumping into this thread as I deeply appreciated it. I’ve just voted on this feature request with 3 more votes ;). Bring it on, this could be great for a new type of app that could be produced with Corona.

Brent, did you had some feedback from engineers if this is something you could enhance in the short term ?

Hi Brent, any news for us ? We would be ready to pay for this.

thanks for letting us know what Corona could do.

Cheers

So basically neither iOS or Android make a stock control for this. Apps you see with multi-select have basically rolled their own. The reason we haven’t done this is because it’s much harder than it would seem. There are a couple of open source libraries that might look like they would work but their going to require research and would likely be a plugin. I don’t know where in our priority list, getting to this will be.

Since you’re an Enterprise subscriber, you could grab these and see if you can get them to work and submit the plugin to the store.
