Mediation question!

I’m complete new to using mediation with ad networks and have some questions I hope you guys can help me with:

  1. When using mediation (for example with admob) do I need to integrate all the used ad networks in the game code? Or is it enough to include admob and then add new ad networks (like for example Unity ads and Vungle) on the admob website?

  2. Same question for the Iron Source plugin: Is it “enough” to include the Iron Source plugin in the app / game and then handle all the networks on the Iron Source website?

Thanks for your help!

Mediation is not supported or works for either Admob or IronSource in corona. To answer your question directly you need to add the ad networks and their adapters to your build. None of the adapters and many of the networks are not available in the simulator build. The only option I am aware of is native builds and you’ll probably have to create some plugins.

Thanks for the info!

Is it possible to use the appodeal plugin instead? And how is this working then?

UPDATE:

I found this https://docs.coronalabs.com/plugin/appodeal/index.html

Does this mean mediation is working with appodeal then?

And what about the paid plugins like for example admob? How is this integrated in appodeal?

Any help welcome!

Yes you can use appodeal and all their plugins without any adtional cost. Appodeal charges a % of the money they get from their DSP but what you see in your networks’ and Appodeal’s control panels is yours.

The paid Admob is not integrated into Appodeal, but you can use any of the appodeal adapters including Admob for free (please read above).

I would be remissed if I didn’t mention something that took me by surprise when I first started. Most of these networks have minimal before they’ll send you money. It is bad enough when all your traffic goes to Admob and you have to reach $100, but once you divide it between Facebook, Unity, Mopub, Admob and others you might not see your money for a long time because you’ll have a few dollars here and there and no where enough to get paid.

So does it make sense compared to using paid admob plugin and unity plugin and others?

Appodeal seems to take 10% and it would be nice to get some feedback if the “free” mediation system from appodeal is bringing better results than the paid admob plugin for example or an own waterfall model?

My opinion only:

With my app and with my experience appodeal provides at least 10% more revenue than any mediation I have put it against, but I don’t really use them because of that. I mostly use them because they allow me to serve other ads for my other enterprises for free and they allow me to sell ads to third parties with little work. I also like the metrics they provide. If you want to use admob and not pay for the plugin, I would use appodeal. If you already own the plugin or are willing to pay for it, I would use Admob. Even at 10K impressions a day 10% or 20% more eCPM doesn’t translate into substantial increase of money.

I would worry about more important things like user acquisition, user retention and designing a monetization experience that encourages in app purchases.
