More Super Daddio less Super Mario? Any ideas?

I’m looking for any ideas that I can tryout in the game I’m developing named Super Daddio http://www.superdaddio.com/ . The game is a 2d platformer that I’m making using Corona.

I don’t want to make the game too much like Mario. So any and all ideas are welcome. No idea is too crazy or stupid either

The game looks great. All runs very smoothly and I like the physics you used.

Graphics maybe, i’m not sure. Also a name change I think, just so people don’t think your ripping off mario.

Id be happy to test the game and give you more feedback, looks really really good, the game is right up my alley  [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 23836 reply_id: 95980[/import]

@Danny absolutely you can test it out and provide feedback. What’s your email so I can send you a copy? [import]uid: 38820 topic_id: 23836 reply_id: 95999[/import]

very nice looking mario clone!
and in my opinion it’s no problem at all to create a mario inspired game.

now you’re asking for crazy ideas, huh?
the physics is a good start to set that game apart from the original. maybe there’s more to add here? platforms floating on water, trampolines, pinball-bumpers (in general, some sonic-style tubes and bumpers would be nice in a mario game

you maybe heard of mari0, the mario-portal-mashup http://stabyourself.net/mari0/ – it’s always a nice idea to mashup games – you can also grab the mari0 sourcecode, it’s written in LUA  – it also has a level editor, which is a great feature to bind a community to your game.

you could also try to create new sounds that reminds the player of the original game but are not the original sounds.
you must(!) try SFXR -> http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
(there are also linux, mac and iOS ports available)

and… do you have boss fights? I always loved those big screen filling mario bosses.

however, keep us posted. this looks like a nice project!

EDIT: I just noticed the link to the AS3 version of SFXR on your site. so you probably already use it

I use BFXR on Mac  It’s in Air. [import]uid: 10389 topic_id: 23836 reply_id: 96163[/import]

@Danny Sent you a copy of the game. Enjoy

@canupa Water and floating good idea. Not sure how to do it with physics though? Good suggestion, actually already using SFXR and BFXR for game soundfx. Boss fights, absolutely at the end of each world. mario-portal-mashup I’ll have a look at the link thank you.

@WauloK Yes. Using it already. It even has more options than SFXR.
