You need look no further then the highest grossing games. Rage of Bahamut is number 1. It’s some sort of japanese rpg card game. CSR racing is top ten. I read somewhere is making a million bucks a day from people upgrading their virtual cars. So basically freemium games with virtual upgrades I would argue as most profitable. Consider Angry Birds vs. Word with Friends and Draw Something.
Now that said, arcade games probably are better in landscape because of the typical placement of buttons where word games tend to fit vertical better.
