I believe sound and music is as important if not more than graphics.

I still listen to Doom I & II soundtracks, and I love Candy Crush music among many other things … not to mention mario and other retro games

Music is the only truly universal even multiversal language

In close encounters of the third kind movie the communication with aliens scene using music is unforgettable

Doom has such great soundtracks! I still find it wonderful how a single person can love completely different style of soundtracks. So much love and appreciation out there for music.

I am totally with you that music is such a universal language. Which is one of the reasons I resonated with making music. I struggled to explain my emotions with words for people to understand, but music resonates with a universal group without a language barrier. I love it!
