My first game

Hi,

I’m Ranju, I have developed a small flappy bird like game using Corona. This is my first game. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Apple App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id844962051

Google Play Store: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eshwar.ranju.turtletakeofffree

Hi Ranju,

I am also a new developer in Corona sdk. I just played your game in my  android phone. I pretty like it, especially it is connected to google play. The only problem is when the turtle fly, it doesn’t have any sound for that. I think if you can add that sound it would be much better.

hi Ranju. i have just download the app. It is a really nice fact that with Corona you can

create something as close to Flappy Bird. All of the elements are quite there, but I noticed the movement of the turtle

are quite ‘snappy’ when you touch it, and it reacts to fly. I think you should make more transitions to the turtle itself more

when it gets low and up high again. other than that, it feels quite nice, even though the idea itself is not original

ps: I have the 2nd on global leaderboard, btw :slight_smile:

@Lin

Hi. I’m glad that you liked the game. Actually, there is a sound effect that is played when the turtle flaps its wings. I intentionally drowned the volume of the flapping sound down to make it less annoying. If you turn the volume up on your device, you can hear it (but it isn’t as loud as you might expect it to be).

@Jonathan

Hi. Thank you for the feedback. When the game was first released (v1.0), the game was hard. Getting past a score of 10 itself was an achievement. :slight_smile: But if you really learned the game’s controls, you could do much better (I actually scored 38 in v1.0). If the turtle had very smooth and flowy transitions, the player would not have been able to navigate through the pipes as they were placed quite close to each other. Hence the controls were made ‘snappy’ so that the turtle responds very quickly to the player’s taps. I was hoping that the need for skilled gameplay would popularize the game. But once v1.0 was released, it seemed that people weren’t getting past even 2 pipes. The game didn’t get many downloads and analytics showed that majority of the game sessions were very short (below 30 seconds). I originally made the gameplay hard because I thought people enjoyed difficult games like Flappy Bird. But that wasn’t the case here as my game was not popular to begin with. So I decided to ease the difficulty in future updates. So in v1.2 (current version), it’s much easier to score higher because the pipes are now spread out more than before making navigation easier. I can probably make the turtle animations smoother now as you’ve suggested to complement the easier gameplay, but I probably won’t do that or make any other content updates because the game isn’t really doing that well on the app store anyway. The game has received a total of about 200 downloads so far. Not really a concern since this game was more of an experiment.

but it is a good start, keep creating ranju! :slight_smile:

Hello Ranju, good work creating a flappy bird-like game !

There is a huge negative point though, which is the description + title of the game in French. I don’t know if you used Google Translate or something like that, but as a French native I can hardly understand what is written.

I would suggest : (also, don’t translate the title of your game, just keep Turtle Takeoff)

Thank you. Good luck with your creations too. :slight_smile:

Haha. The game wasn’t getting many downloads when I only had English descriptions. I wanted to see the extent to which localization could impact downloads. Since this game essentially was an experiment, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money just on localization, so I used Google Translate. :slight_smile: Thanks for pointing out the ridiculosity of the French translation. I’ve now removed all translations from ther Play Store completely except French for which I’ve used yours. Thank you very much for taking the time! :slight_smile:

Also, it’s very impressive that you’re developing video games at the age of just 14. Really awesome! Good luck with your future games.
