Native widgets for iOS and Android

@CoronaLabs

Implement functionality for true native widgets on iOS and Android.

There are times (especially business apps) where the existing widget library just doesn’t cut it. Yes, Widgets 2.0 does a fair approximation, but that’s just it. It’s an approximation… of iOS widgets. Even when run on Android they behave like iOS widgets (even though the skin can look like Android).

I’m not saying that Widgets 2.0 should be replaced. It has its uses when you don’t need true native widgets (I’d like to call these OpenGL widgets instead).

I propose that a new native widget library be developed that uses true native widgets on iOS and Android.

Voted and couldn’t agree more to the need. However, based on the dialogue of last 2+ years, I don’t see Corona Labs taking this step at all.

Hi guys. Ingemar, is the access you get to native widgets via Corona Enterprise not useful for the scenario you have in mind?

I’m not wearing my Enterprise hat with the request above. I’m talking about something with a unified (coronafied?) API for accessing native widgets (much like Appcelerator’s Titanium.UI)

You can try to do this with Enterprise, however it’s quite a major undertaking which would mean you might as well go full native in such cases. Especially now with Swift for iOS which makes native programming much easier than Objective-C ever was.

Will it be easy for you guys? Heck no. I know that. But I believe you’re losing developers of business apps because of the lack of it.

I added 3 votes, but I’m not convinced our voting has any impact on the features developed.
