Need More Info On The New Graphics Features!

The deadline for buying Pro at a discount is approaching. One of the new features is new graphics (both functionality and efficiency). Unfortunately, no details have been announced yet AFAIK. When will these details be released? It is crucial to know this before people make a decision regarding going to Corona Pro or not.

Sure, I’ll have a more complete list soon, but here are a few of the things we’ll be doing to whet your appetite:

* Render display objects to textures

* Augmented reality

* 2.5D starting with skewing an image

* Image manipulation: Color hue mapping

* Lots of blend modes

* Filter effects: Initially these will be prebuilt ones. Later you will be able to write your own!

WOW! Augmented reality?! I waited for this for so long! Also, will we be able to add glow to say a line? For instance use it for a cool laser beam effect. Currently you have to use an image of a line already having a glow then distort it using xScals and yScale. Not super elegant! In any event can’t wait to see the complete list. Any time table… I had to ask LOL Mo

This sounds really really great! Does “Color hue mapping” mean that we are able to change the color of an image on the fly? Like having one image or spritesheet and using it for different coloured enemies? :slight_smile:

@LairdGames, you can get a glow effect today via the “add” blend mode: http://www.coronalabs.com/blog/2011/04/28/compositing-fun-with-additive-blends/  Fancier glow effects would be possible via filter effects.

@CineTek, color hue mapping will allow you to change the color of any visible object. You can scale (tint) and also bias (offset) each color channel. This is useful if you want to create lots of color variations of the same image.

Hi Mo,

Here’s another tutorial on blend modes.

As Walter says, you can achieve a great “glow” effect using the “add” blend mode. Currently, there is only “add”, “screen”, and “multiply” modes available, but as stated, 2.0 will add more. :slight_smile:

Brent

Looking fwd to checking these all out

Thanks Walter and Brent. I did not mean having an image of a laser beam and use “add” to show a glow BUT actually drawing a line in (or a long rectangle) real time and then adding a glow to it. Again if you an image of a laser beam to start with then you need to use xScale, yScale and rotation to draw the laser beam between two points. Not very elegant. If I can simply draw a simple line and add a glow effect then that will be much simpler. I am probably not very clear. LOL thanks again. Mo

Wow, can’t wait to see the filters and the new blend modes, so I’ll be able to enhance the filters of my photo app made in Corona ( scarycamera.com ).

Any idea when you’re going to release the new blend modes?

Glad you like! The blend modes will be exposed as filters, so they’ll be part of the initial batch of graphics features in the new engine.
