Need some guidance on what direction to take

Hi all, hopefully some more experienced people out there can give me some advice. For the last 6 months I’ve been working on a story rich, turn based RPG, kind of like the old fallout games, that genre. I’ve been coding in Blitzmax, which is a really powerful language. But lately I’ve been having doubts about a game like this on the PC with piracy being the way it is.

So the other direction I can take is developing it for the ipad. One option is to use the iT2d engine by GarageGames, which I’m already really familiar with. What I don’t like is the scripting language is really simple, not class based so makes coding harder in the long run. And I would prefer to create something I can call my own rather than having to abide by a third party license, displaying their logo at the start of the game, etc.

And then there is Corona, which from what I can tell is a rich API and I can make whatever I want with it. Does anyone know if Corona would be suited to build a turn based combat RPG game with a lot of sprites? What is the learning curve? I’m not a good programmer but I’m not a complete novice either. If you were in my position, what route would you choose?

Any opinions or thoughts would be well appreciated. [import]uid: 72439 topic_id: 11875 reply_id: 311875[/import]

yes, I can absolutely imagine making a RPG with corona sdk.
you should try to build a prototype with the free version.
it’s really easy and can be learned in one day.

For me it took 2 weeks to have my first universal corona app uploaded to apple. And I have a lot of sprites and particles and explosions…

I’d say: just take a look, it’s free…

and for a RPG, try using Lime, for someone with little or no CoronaSDK experience, it is the best way to get a RPG type app made.

Do you have a website for Lime? [import]uid: 72439 topic_id: 11875 reply_id: 43321[/import]

Just add lime

I second all the above.

Corona is awesome. (I know I’m staff, but I was a fan for a long time first!)

Also, Lua is intuitive; not being noob or pro it’s something you can pick up easily. (I don’t even know anything beyond the most basic of HTML and it took me 3 weeks to make a decent, small app.)

Best of luck to you - RPGs are awesome!
