Graphics were so well done it grabbed my attention to try it out.  The only things that come to mind / I noticed:

  • noted you couldn’t skip through the intro video like in some games (not saying that’s bad, just noticed it)

  • biggest thing I noticed was no sound for clicks on menu items.  I think you really need this.

  • play button on main screen is a little small & I think should be bigger. perhaps trigger entry into the game base on tapping anywhere

  • the options that come up at the end of each game are a little small on the iphone.  Not too bad, but perhaps increase the size

I’d be really interested to know what dev tools you used for things like:

 - graphics

 - animations

 - then integrating them into the game

Good luck

Thanks a lot for the complements and feedback !

  1. Not able to skip the video is kind of not so ok, but I didn’t find a way to do that - because I am playing that from media-player, and it is tacking over, and I can not show a button to skip it (it goes behind the video - and shows up after the video completes :).

So, I was kind of not so sure, but decided to play the intro video at least when a player plays for the first time. And, second time onwards it won’t play.

  1. I will add sound for clicks. Thanks

  2. I will fix the size of the play button. I think triggering entry into the game on tapping anywhere is nice and better. Thanks.

  3. And, I will increase the size of the options (level-cleared/try-again buttons).

Thanks again !

And for you questions:

>> I’d be really interested to know what dev tools you used for things like:

>>  - graphics

>> - animations

>> - then integrating them into the game

I hired an artist for graphics and he did the artwork mostly in adobe, and I used texture packer to generate sprite sheets for animations.

He did the intro video in adobe flash and gave me a .mov file. I play the file from the game using media.play (which is why there is no  skip button there).

So basically, didn’t really use anything special except ‘Texture Packer’. I love that tool. I have lots of small animations in the game, and without using texture packer, it would have been really painful. Boy… that saved me tons of time.

These may not be important for everyone, but my game was growing huge in size and I had to compress some files.

So, to reduce the image file sizes, I have used 'imageOptim. It did a good job (but be careful… it just overwrites the source file. it won’t ask you for destination file name/path to save the compressed ones).

And the intro video was about 35mb, so I used handbrake. It reduced it to 9mb - without losing quality. Is n’t that tool great :).

I am not sure if I answered your question or not.

If you have any specific question in mind, feel free to ask. I will try my best to answer.

The game will be released this summer!!  Working on all the loose ends, testing on final platforms, and niche marketing right now.  The game graphics and programming was all done by myself - therefore it’s an indie effort.  The sound track was purchased from an indie music artist.

Best Regards, Jan Elmer
