New Amazing things for Corona SDK

In response to the email about big things in January, I am sure that many of us would be excited about it. I can bet that it is DEFINITELY NOT Windows Phone 7, but then what can open up mobile dev to an even larger market, the two options that come to mind are

Nook from Barnes & Noble - running Android
Playbook - The Blackberry offering that uses Flex and Air SDK.

As for the new features, one good thing is that Ansca has understood that time in this mobile game is of the essence. The moment a feature is introduced by Apple or Facebook or OpenFeint, it is very important to be able to offer the same in a development language/SDK. So the daily builds, etc will be really helpful in that regard and there will be the facility to check for newer features, provide feedback and bug reporting, etc.

Microsoft made this error when they introduced the Ribbon Interface and other UI enhancements and did not offer it under their MFC modules. So the native apps created by VS were outdated in comparison to the apps created using other tools and technologies. People duplicated the functionality of the same and had their own implementations. Glad that Ansca is not taking the same approach.

My take on it would be like most of the organisations that offer premium support, it would mean that portions of your code or things that you are trying to achieve will be kind of done for you/suggested to you for a cost. [import]uid: 3826 topic_id: 4555 reply_id: 14370[/import]

I can’t think the Nook would be BIG news, it’s just Android, after all. Possibly the Playbook, but I’m going to guess Mac OS X. After all, every time we’re running something in the simulator we’re running Corona on the desktop, right? So making that “publishable” isn’t something that would require building from the ground up – the foundation (and more) is already there.

On the other hand, maybe Ansca didn’t mean another platform for publishing, but another platform for development – Corona SDK on Windows, anyone?

If that’s the case, glad I wrote CPM as cross-platform, but that would also be stinky for me (he says selfishly) because then I have to support two platforms. And let me tell you, it’s been really nice just being able to focus on one!

Oh yes Jay,
I completely forgot about the Mac OSX Desktop. 6th Jan the OSX store opens, so it must definitely be the Mac OS X Desktop support than another mobile platform that still has to establish itself.

I would have loved if it would have been Windows Phone7, but I guess Carlos has replied time and time again to everyone that has requested for WP7 support.

I doubt if Ansca will port Corona to Windows, but if they announce an IDE that will be superb, that was on the cards a little while ago from Carlos.

anyways, I am sure whatever it is. Good news is always Good news.

could only mean that there would be more people involved in using Corona SDK, now Language (English, Spanish, etc) is hardly an issue, so it has to be the Platform (Mac OSX, Windows, *nix) or a new Mobile Platform(s). Corona works like Flash/Actionscript. Flex works like Flash/Actionscript, so the logical assumption could be the integration of Adobe AIR or Flex. This would mean opening it up to all the systems that support Flash or can compile the app into native code for that processor.

Mac OSX apps would have been nice, but wouldn’t really open up mobile development to an even larger market.

What say? Carlos, I know you want to enjoy Christmas over torturing us over this, can’t you leave some hints? just drop a clue here and there?
