New Game Release / Google Play Store Search Query

Hi Guys,

I’ve recently released my new game - Name That Noise, as well as a Lite version called Name That Noise Lite.

My package name that I built with Corona replaced the spaces with underscores so the link to my store listing is now:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlemail.Krivvenz.Name_That_Noise_Lite

This would be fine but those underscores are not registering as spaces in the Google Play Store Search.

If I search for Name That Noise it doesn’t pick my app up in the top 250 which I find hard to believe seeing as that’s the direct name for my game?

If I put “Name That Noise” in quotes, it finds it fine.

If I put name_that_noise it finds it fine.

I have no chance of organic growth though if I have to tell people to put quotes or under scores?

Is there anyway to get those underscores in the package name to register as spaces or is this some sort of Google Search Issue?

Kind Regards,

Krivvenz.

Google rank apps by rating, not name. That’s why you can’t find it via search, as your app isn’t ranked high enough (due to few downloads and ratings)

Google classifies apps with few ratings as “poor quality apps”. That is a quote i heard them say to one developer.

It’s a very unfair system for indie devs. Basically this boils down to people not being able to find your app by name until it is popular

Sounds like a dead end street to me… One more reason for me to care even less about Android.

Of course you might avoid this if you have a really unique app name, but even then… The odds are against you.

Oh well…

I just searched for “Name that noise” without quotes or underscore, and it came first. My app is also listing first (actually it’s the only result returned) when I search on it without quotes. Google must have changed their policy on this.

Ah yeah I’ve sussed it now :). Guess its how euphoriacorona explained. You need to wait for it to properly index and get more downloads / ratings to make the search terms more findable!
