Nextpeer alternative for Corona

Hey folks have you seen nextpeer http://nextpeer.com/?  It’s like a lobbying service that allows you to pair up with other players and just compares your score to theirs and lets you know your rank in a tournament.  It’s not a proper multiplayer system where you play a game with them (co-op style) so to speak.

Does anyone know of anything similar that could be used with Corona?  I’ve seen pubnub but that means having to create pretty much everything myself which is fine if I have to and there’s nothing else out there to achieve this.

Any views/ideas are welcome on this one!

Is there any news/dates on when multiplayer services for the iOS and Google game centres will be available??

The real solution will be for Coronalabs to work with Nextpeer in developing a plugin for Nextpeer. That would awesome! Mutiplayer (even “fake one”) would really increase our games retention. I understand that we could this with other multiplayer platforms but who really want to re-invent the marketing wheel  with other platforms? Nextpeer has a lot of users already!

Thanks.

Mo

Wouldn’t the PlayTogether plugin accomplish this?

Rob

Thanks Rob. Yes I am sure PlayTogether can do the job BUT Nextpeer already has millions/month of players (according to their site) Those users are already familiar how Nextpeer works. having that many eyes balls on our Corona made games could be a real boost for us

Using another platform would work technically but then we would really struggle to market a multiplayer game which has only few users who know about it. Really hard to scale!!

With Nextpeer, it seems that screenshots of the game moments are shown in a stream (gamestream) so all people can see it. Of course that should really help for players to learn about our game!

Hope Coronalabs will really look into NextPeer!  The game Fun Run (made with Corona and use Nextpeer…not sure how but probably Enterprise?) is a really good example of what can be achieve with Corona and Nextpeer!

Feel free to ask Nextpeer to contact Corona Labs and offer to make a plugin for their service.  We don’t have the engineering resources to build (and support) plugins for every 3rd party out there.  Now I don’t know what contracts we have with what plugin partners, but it would start with them contacting us.

Rob

Hi Rob, I want to respectably disagree with what you said. I think it is Coronalabs job to bring more partners to the Corona SDK that can help us succeed with our Corona made apps. i am not saying that Coronalabs should be responsible in making the plugins but I think it should be Coronalabs interest to contact Nextpeer (and others) pro-actively to see if there is a fit. It seems to me that if Nextpeer was told about the many Corona developers are in the World, It will be stupid of Nextpeer not jump with both feet! Corona already brought a lot of partners in but I do not see many that could have the effect of Nextpeer for some of us who make games.

But i do agree with you that if we  (as we developers) can help push Nextpeer in the right direction, then sure we should be doing that.

Cheers.

Great answer Mo.  This is exactly the approach that should be taken.

Way back when I posted this a nextpeer rep mentioned to me they were looking at Corona integration but at the time had different platforms to address.

I guess you guys mis-read what I said.  We don’t have the engineering resources to build it ourselves.  A 3rd party will have to build the plugin, like the company Nextpeer  in this case.   If this is something you want, we have to know you want it.  I’ve never heard of Nextpeer before this post.  Has anyone asked for it at http://feedback.coronalabs.com yet?  We have to need to know there is an interest and having it voted up on Feedback would give us some measure on how popular this would be.  We don’t track +1’s in the forum any more.

Rob

Hey guys - I’ve exchanged emails with Nextpeer in the past and they were interested in potentially making a plugin. However we lost communication. I’m happy to follow up with them again and try to figure it out. But it wouldn’t hurt if you also tell them you would like Corona support.

By the way - you could also use Corona Enterprise to integrate their SDK into your app. Just putting it out there because that is possible today.

Sorry Rob, I did not mean that Coronalabs needed to make the plugin. But you are right, I should have added to the official feedback. Done! I just added it. I am hope people will upvote it. I cannot think of many third party tool that could boost our Corona made games that much! Nextpeer already did the marketing job for us! We just need to join the party!

Please upvote NextPeer here:

Mo

ps: Thanks David. Please follow up with Nextpeer if you can (and if people here are interested) I think couple of Corona developers contacting them may not be enough (I think not many of us know about that service)
