Nintendo Switch Support

I know it’s a crazy pipe dream ( pun fully intended ) but it’d be great to be able to release a game for a Nintendo platform, and now that touchscreen-only games have been shown to be allowed by Nintendo, it’d be great to release our games on the Switch.

Anyone else?

Yeah that comes right after Xbox One and PS4 support lol

+1 for this, I emailed Corona a few weeks back about this exact same thing but no response as I’d love to be able to develop/port for the Switch with my new and existing Corona built games.

Haha yea I am most definitely aware that it is barely even a remote possibility, for very legitimate reasons, however, I figure there is no harm in asking.

However, I do think there is a slightly higher chance of this happening over say XBox and PS support, simply because now that touchscreen-only games are allowed it would mean that Corona wouldn’t need to, at first anyway, support the cornucopia of inputs and sensors that the Switch provides, and would be similar, ever so slightly, to the current workflow of most corona devs.

Thanks for the votes!

I think this might be in dream territory, but it’s a dream we share! We’re building a PC/Mac steam game at the moment and would LOVE to get it onto the switch!

Dreams do come true  I am really excited to see how the Switch eShop/software market goes over the next year or two, if plenty of units are sold it could be a great market to develop and publish on for indies and bigger studios alike. The hardware looks the goods especially with it having a quality touch screen, wonder if it will have portrait orientation capabilities :P (it better)

A Laser Dog game would be amazing on the switch, I’m sure you guys would be able to make amazing use of the HD rumble stuff!

Yea I’m excited too, hopefully it’ll be successful enough that Corona has to take notice.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

The thing is, it needs to be worth Corona’s time. It’s a big undertaking, and not really in their business plan (totally guessing based on what’s currently available).

We are seeing Corona monetising in different ways now, which is good. We’d totally be up for a revenue share deal with console support. I think that’d be fare. Perhaps a entry cost, like pay $x to unlock “build for X console”.

It works for other platforms, but Corona is mobile first (and amazing at that!). I guess we’ll have to see

In the mean time, there is always Unity. I know unity pretty well now, but I prefer working in Corona SO MUCH

Yea some form of payment to get access to it would probably be a good way to go, however, console dev is naturally an entirely different beast than mobile and not sure how many indies ( Glitch very much included ) would be able to make the switch ( pun fully intended, again ).

We keep thinking about having a proper play with Unity but just never find the time, as it would take away our ability to make games currently whilst learning, and that means income drops. That and every time I look into other engines I can’t help but think how much nicer it is to develop in Corona.
