No interstitial ads for iAds in iPhone?

I was just looking at the docs for iAds and it says 
 

adUnitType (required)

String. The type of ad to show. On iPad, iAds supports either “banner” or “interstitial”. On other iOS devices, it supports “banner”.

Does this mean we can’t show interstitial iAds in devices other than iPad?

Is this an Apple limitation or a Corona one?

Apple only provides interstitials for the iPad, though there was an article in 9to5mac (and other news sources) back in March saying they were considering bringing them to the iPhone.

But the Apple documentation clearly says iPad only:

Although Corona now is Fuse Powered, I hope Corona can also work hard on other IAP providers, especially for iAd & adMob.
