No sound issue still occuring on iOS

I really hate to bring this issue back up again because it’s supposedly been fixed, but I am still getting customer complaints that my apps will suddenly stop playing audio on their iOS devices. All of my apps are built using build 914, which should have included all of the previous fixes for audio stopping.

Anytime a customer contacts me I ask them to verify they are running the most up to date iOS, and the most update version of my app. Even after this, many of them still have issue. Restarting the device doesn’t fix it either.

I realize this is very difficult for Corona to troubleshoot because I can’t even cause the error on my own device, but I’m receiving negative reviews and angry customer emails because of this. What should I tell them to do? Is there something Corona would suggest for these users to try, or are there questions I should ask them to get more information? There are 2 known Apple bugs introduced in iOS 6 which we cannot work around. You MUST file a bug report with Apple.
One bug is triggered by an audio interruption (bringing up Siri, getting a phone call).
The other bug (which seems to only happen sometimes/rarely) will happen with screen lock.

In both cases, killing the app and restarting fixes the problem.

Please search the forums for more info and bug numbers. (I can’t remember, but they have been talked about very recently.)
Your case where the audio doesn’t come back even after rebooting is not known to us. We would need a lot more info to debug that.

I’m going to bump this back up, not because I think it’s something Corona needs to fix but because I need some advice from other developers.

I get 2-3 reviews per week on my children’s apps that states the sound suddenly stops and is broken and I get 1 star. I have attempted to recreate this bug for days on end, and I can’t break it.

Have any other developers been getting reviews like this? Any reports from customers who have issues? They never contact me via email, they only leave reviews and I can’t help them then.

I’m honestly starting to think I have someone out there bad mouthing my games and creating accounts to leave 1-star reviews, but obviously have no way to prove it.

Any advice on what can be done? This is incredibly frustrating and I’m at a loss. [import]uid: 84258 topic_id: 32538 reply_id: 133267[/import]

Hello i have also got some 1 start reviews complaining about no sound
at lest one of the had this problem
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/09/15/how-to-fix-no-sound-in-ipad-apps/
not really a corona problem

but they still get mad and write bad reviews

Maybe if there is some way to check for mute we can check this and alert the user

anyhow if you get support mail send them the link
it may help for some of them

About the “bad mouthing” check the review in itunes on a computer
then you can click the name
usually people write bad reviews on competitors write good once to them self
you can easily see the pattern

if not they have payed some service to do it for them
then its harder to see but some of the accounts used from payed services have huge amount of good reviews and are often very silly
“This app saved my life! i LOVE it so much”

If you find a clear pattern you can try to write apple abut it
dont think any thing will happen but still worth a try

Or mail the bad guy

Thanks for the tips. That page you linked to is very similar to a video that I refer users to, and actually have posted in the description of my apps in case they are having issues:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUUB1EAzzZE

And I poked around and looked at some users, and most seem to have only left 1 review and it’s on my app. No smoking gun, but still fishy. I really wish Apple’s review system was like Amazon’s where I can actually post a comment in response to the review. That usually results in them emailing me, resolving the issue, and a better review. [import]uid: 84258 topic_id: 32538 reply_id: 133283[/import]

Good video !
got this from the description text

1. the volume is locked by the software volume lock that most people aren’t aware of. You can access it by double tapping the home button and scrolling all the way to the left.

2. the system sound engine was crashed by another app. Refresh the sound engine by going into the system settings page. Under general, tap on Sounds and minimize and then maximize the volume bar.

3. App’s internal state is screwed up… Restart the app by double tapping the home button for the task bar to show up… then on the task bar, you’ll see all the apps running in the background. Hold down on an app icon for 1/2 second until a minus sign appears… tap minus sign to close the app permanently… Then restart the app to refresh its state.

4. The device’s internal state is screwed up. Restart the device by holding down the home button and the power button for 10 seconds.

5 The app is corrupted thus crashing constantly… Delete the app and re-download it… You won’t get charged again…so don’t worry.

I will add it to my support page

Bumping this back up because another one of my threads on sound issues was bumped. I want to submit bugs for these 2 iOS problems but I can’t find the bug number and info that ewing referenced. I’ve searched the forums and the only posts I can find about this issue are my own.

Anyone have the bug numbers or links on Open Radar so I can submit my own bug report? [import]uid: 84258 topic_id: 32538 reply_id: 134378[/import]

[This is a re-post from another thread about the same issue]

I’ve done some more testing, and there’s some good news.

I took an app that was compiled with 2012.972 for iOS 6.0 and ran it on my beta device running iOS 6.1 beta 3.
The audio issues appear to be fixed. I was not able to reproduce either of the audio-loss issues (Siri activation and pressing power button to activate lock-screen) when running the app on iOS 6.1 beta 3.
I tried each of the issues countless times without losing audio upon return to the app. I would recommend others to try the same with their apps using 6.1 beta 3.

To be on the safe side I also compiled a new bundle using 2012.978 and complied specifically with the 6.1 preview 3 setting. When running this on 6.1 beta 3, no audio issues are found. [import]uid: 70847 topic_id: 32538 reply_id: 134596[/import]

hi guys - I’m having an issue with intermittent audio not working on a certain channel, on both simulator & IOS device - is this possibly related to what seems to be the known issues referred to here?
