Yay! I finally installed it on to the device (Nook Color) . Now I am trying to figure out how to open it on the device and run it…ugh! I get different solutions in the forums I hit, and having troubles with it. [import]uid: 75258 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 81200[/import]
Oh by the way, for anyone who might end up having issues when they type adb … in the terminal (MAC), try ./adb and then all that comes after this. It took me a few minutes to figure this out as I was constantly getting errors! I hope this helps somebody out there! [import]uid: 75258 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 81201[/import]
Got it to work! [import]uid: 75258 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 81218[/import]
Yes, you have to specify the full path to the adb.exe. On Windows, there is a step to add the Platform-Tools directory to the Path environmental variable. This allows you to bring up a command prompt and type adb without specifying the full path. I’m not a Mac developer but I bet there is a way to do this on the Mac as well.
Glad you got it to work. [import]uid: 38348 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 81279[/import]
Hey sondler,
By any change do you know what’s the best way to get the “Support URL” to stop showing red when you are filling out the meta-data in the B&N developer account? I have entered all of the require metadata for my app, and when I try to submit for meta-data revision, the “Support URL” tab always shows red.
Any thought? I ask you because it seems like you have gone through the process. Thanks in advance [import]uid: 75258 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 81626[/import]
hmm… that is odd. Make sure you have "http:// to begin your url rather than just domain.com/support.
here is mine: http://spitfiregames.com/Support/
They are usually pretty good at getting back to you. If you have that url pattern already, you might want to submit a ticket.
I didn’t have any problem with the support url.

I’m looking to sign up for this and the fact that I have to enter a lot of the same information twice is kind of annoying, but the last thing on the second application is “Do you own a NOOK Color device? (*)”
Since I don’t is that going to punt me? Do I need to lie? It sounds like from the thread above they may want the device ID.
Any visions on this approval process?
[import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 92179[/import]
Yep, the B&N signup process is overkill. The funny thing is that I had the same thoughts about the application process, do I lie and tell them I have a device? I doubt that they will deny your application as they want to gain a larger developer base. However, a question for you… how do you know your application actually works on the device if you don’t test it own the device? I ended up buying the Nook Tablet and I was happy I did. The simulator can only do so much for you. I had a bug that prevented my game from running on the device but worked on the simulator. It was a simple capitalization typo for one of my sound files. I was able to fix it and test the game on my Nook. I had no trouble submitting the app and it was accepted on the first try.
In my forum browsing, I have seen where B&N rejected a developer’s submission 10 times in a row due to the app not working on the device. It must have cost the developer a lot of time because I’m guessing that the turn around time was a few days per submission. If the developer would have owned the device, he or she would have saved a lot of time testing the app before submitting it. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I just had my app released in the Nook Store yesterday. I do not own the device and I did’t lie in the developer application. They will publish your app without owning the device.
My app was rejected 1 time before it went live. I had ads in the game, and they do not accept ads. So I created an ads-free version and will sell it for $0.99.
One other time I wanted to update some of the info I previously entered while the app was in review, and the entire process started over. D’oh.
For the Kindle and Nook, it seems they like to review everything. I didn’t expect that updates would go through a review process that took days. I had a few bug fixes that I wanted to upload, and right now I am waiting for Amazon to approve the 1.3 update while I just released 1.4. [import]uid: 114363 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 92193[/import]
@sondlerd, as for not having a device, it realistically only seems to be a problem for me with the Nook.
I have an iPhone4 to test my iOS stuff on and use TestFlightApp to get people with iPads to test it. For Android, I put a .apk up in a hidden folder and have a few social net friends try it for me. Once I have a working Android build, I can submit that to Amazon as a straight up Android build and then they will test it on the Fire for me.
When the next iPhones come out in June, I’ll upgrade, hand my 4 to my wife and then take her 3Gs and trade it with an android user who needs an iPhone to test webpages on and he will give me his phone he’s upgrading to, but that’s not going to be until the end of June before that happens, so I’m not wanting to plunk down any money towards Android test devices right now. I’d rather get an iPad as a tablet.
I know people with Nook’s but you can’t just load apps on them to test, so this creates a bit of a problem and may force me to get a Nook or just forget that platform even exists.

I found this: Pre-owned Nook for $135
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/cert-pre-owned-nook-color-barnes-noble/1100666155
That may be the way to go.
UPDATE: I was approved as a developer in about an hour after submitting the second form.
[import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 92205[/import]
Nice find on the pre-owned nook. One hour is record time. Cool.
If you buy the device, you’ll get to go through the fun of trying to get your app installed on the device. I guess you’ll be back to this post!
In my experience, it is worth it. I published a children’s app and so far it has sold the best at B&N. Thanks to Corona, I published it for four platforms, so beating iTunes and Google Market place was a surprise to me.
[import]uid: 38348 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 92231[/import]
I second sondlerd on the worthiness of developing for NOOK. I have built games/apps using Corona for Amazon, Google Android, Amazon and by FAR B&N is the best market for my applications, in terms of actually making money.
If you get stuck installing apps in your NOOK device just let us know: we have all gone through that somewhat painful experience and I am sure we will be happy to assist you on that.
Cheers! [import]uid: 75258 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 92232[/import]
Hi everyone,
Slightly hijacking this thread. Is there information available on how to link to the Nook marketplace item from an app (e.g. to do reviews)? I have an EAN from B&N, but don’t really know how to navigate to it in a meaningful, deterministic and easy way from Corona? Any best practices?
I don’t own a Nook, so any help would be much appreciated.

I have the url working for web links but I have not found something like the easy market:// that works on amazon and google play.
let me know if you find one too. [import]uid: 110373 topic_id: 18335 reply_id: 92284[/import]
Here is the URL to link games back to the B&N store. Here is a link to my game, ABC Ranch: https://nookdeveloper.barnesandnoble.com/tools/dev/linkManager/2940043873538
the 2940043873538 number is the EAN of my game. I pasted in another EAN and it presented me with the other apps page. So, if you want to link back to the B&N marketplace, you can use this URL and swap the EAN number. I’m not sure if it will change but I would guess not. I grabbed this URL from the Badge Generator Beta under the Marketing tab within the NookDeveloper.B&N.com developer site.
I noticed that after clicking this link, the URL change to http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/abc-ranch-spitfire-game-studios-llc/1108015060?ean=2940043873538 Which is what you see if you simply search for the game title in B&N online store.
Regarding a link within the tablet, there is no link that I could see while browsing on my nook tablet.

Just to add some support to the Nook Store, In my first two days one of my apps is showing 18% higher sales on nook than amazon.
If you want to see the rest of the numbers they are in the Launch Thread:
