NOOK Color and OpenFeint problems

I noticed that games on this system (Nook color) is slower/lags than games on the iphone/ipad. This is the 3rd game I have tested so far including Wonder Witches, Fruit Catcher, a couple of sample games written with corona sdk. Is their a special way to optimize jsut for the Nook devices? I have tested other games on their app store and it ran fine but the few games from corona lags. I hope there is a solution to this.

Thanks a lot sid for you support, and thanks for the information!

I wish I could test this a bit better. How big is the lag? Yesterday I reworked my game to use the new sprite API and also trimmed down the size of the graphics so they require less memory. Not sure if that would improve anything with the Nook? On the Kindle Fire I noticed that sound FX are generally a bit delayed (which is a common problem).

@wunderwuzzi It’s no problem. With your game, there was no “lag” but it’s slower than what I experienced with the iphone 4. Maybe the iphone 4 is more powerful but I noticed this “slowness/lag” on a few apps and it made me concerned. So for your game, it certainly is playable just seems like the witch/clouds is flying slow. I hope there’s an optimization technique just for the nook that we don’t about yet.

@Sid, thanks! Good to know that there aren’t constant lags - my heart skipped a beat. I’m trying to avoid any form of unexpected garbage collection during game play and pre-allocate all the graphics and sprites. Sometimes when OpenFeint/GameCenter reaches out to request achievements I noticed a lag with my iPhone/Samsung Galaxy though.

On a side note: …yes, I’m still pondering about the music thing.

@wunderwuzzi Hey I got your game, super fun!!! Nice job.

As far as “slowness” on the Nook, it seems fine for me on the tablet but I did not try it on the iPhone, so I do not have anything to compare it against see what I meen?

@ Sid T Having said that, I HAVE noticed that my tests lag a bit on the tablet no matter what I try to do to optimize. Much faster and smoother on everything else, including some old Android test phones. I am hoping this has something to do with Nook that can be handled better. I would also like to hear if there is anything we can to to improve Nook performance. [import]uid: 8139 topic_id: 18837 reply_id: 95498[/import]
