NOOK Color and OpenFeint problems

I was just informed by Barnes & Noble that my app failed to pass certification for the NOOK Color because th app would freeze on the OpenFeint loading screen until the user hit a key.

I don’t have a NOOK Color to test with at the moment so my first thought is simply to remove OpenFeint but I wanted to see if anyone else had run into this issue.

Anyone have any input?

Thanks,

OpenFeint only works with Android and iPhone. Nook Color and Kindle Fire don’t work.

OpenFeint does work on the Kindle Fire, I have one of those to test on.

But maybe I should remove it from the NOOK build until I can get a device to test.

Thanks. [import]uid: 11540 topic_id: 18837 reply_id: 72506[/import]

I have a nook tablet and it does not seem to have any problem with OF. I don’t have a nook color uh oh. Should i remove OF, or will it work because it is OK on the tablet? I am using Corona build 704. Is anyone else using OF on the nook? [import]uid: 8139 topic_id: 18837 reply_id: 92924[/import]

I submitted my game and initially the subscription was approved, where it states that the game has OpenFeint integration. I know that the B&N team checks the description thoroughly, because in the beginning I had copied the iTunes description which stated Game Center integration and B&N rejected that.

So I think OF should work, otherwise I am sure they would have rejected that as well.

I submitted the apk of the game over the weekend and waiting now to hear back from B&N. How long is the review process typically?

I can share share the info, if they approved or rejected my game which has OF integration if folks are interested.

Thanks Wunderwuzzi! So did you test your app on a Nook Color? I was able to test mine on a Nook Tablet and the OF worked great no problem.

I heard awhile ago that B&N review process is a little long, longer than Apple. But that was awhile ago, maybe they have speeded it up. I would love to hear if your App goes through with OF for Nook Tablet and Nook Color. Good luck!

@kRona: Nope, I don’t own a Nook color, but my game Wonder Witches was approved last Monday and then ready for publishing on Tuesday. So I think OpenFeint doesn’t create issues.

B&N nook developer site says it should take 24-48 hours for the game to be available, but I still can’t locate it in the Nook store. :frowning:

The last games that where published all seem to have a date of 3/14 and mine isn’t there. Hopefully it shows up soon. I’ll head to a B&N store afterwards to install and test.

@wunderwuzzi I just checked on my Nook color and can’t find it either. [import]uid: 7475 topic_id: 18837 reply_id: 94148[/import]

@Sid, thanks for checking. Wondering if that’s the normal experience when publishing for Nook, or if there is something off in my case.

Last update from Tuesday on the nook developer site says: “The application has been published and should appear in shop within next 24-48 hours.”

I’ll wait until Monday, and otherwise send an email to their support team.

@wunderwuzzi hey congratulations! Thanks for the info too.

I’m going to look for your game and get a copy as soon as it shows up. Maybe they are just behind in publishing…?

Thanks kRona, when I sort games from “Newest to oldest” in the Nook store I see that games were published on the 14th and before that on the 7th, and before that on the 1st. Maybe B&N only updates the store with new games once a week… let’s see.

Hey where is you game? I still don’t see it in Nook store. Wonder Witches right?

Really fun avitar btw

I’m still not really sure about including OF in my Nook build. I mean it works, at least on the tablet, but the implementation comes across kind of weird. It’s not really clear how to get out of the OF screen on the Nook tablet and it is really small in portrait mode, kind of like a horizontal screen scaled down. Plus, I have no idea how it would look on the Nook Color. Maybe I am just being too critical.

Theoretically, if it works on the Tabet shouldn’t it be the same on the Nook Color?

Anyone else using OF on the Nook, think it is a good idea and feature to include? [import]uid: 8139 topic_id: 18837 reply_id: 94656[/import]

Hey kRona! Yes, Wonder Witches, thanks for checking. It’s still a no show. I opened a service request to understand the reason it’s not showing. The last apps published are from the 14th of March, nothing since.

That is just so weird. Wow I can’t even imagine what must be going on over there to not be getting their apps to the market yikes. I’ll keep my eye out for it, looking forward to flying a broom stick. You should market to Harry Potter fans :0)

@wunderwuzzi I think I read somewhere on the Nook forum that they release every Wednesday so if March 14th lands on a Wednesday then your app should show this Wednesday or Thursday if everything is ok.

I exchanged a bunch of message with the nook support team today, and they are very quick and helpful!

There was some internal issue related to my profile, and hence my app will show up this Wednesday/Thursday when the batch of new apps is going live. yeah!

Looking forward to that! Hopefully someone in the B&N store, allows me to install and test the game - so I can see it run on the Nook. I am now also curious on how OpenFeint looks on the Nook.

@wunderwuzzi Great news! I’m looking forward to trying it out on the Nook too. I’ll check back on Wednesday/Thursday, congrats!

@wunderwuzzi I can get your app and tell you how it looks on the Nook Tablet.

I didn’t really like the OF implementation on the Nook for my APP, so I decided to leave it out for now and maybe include it in an upgrade later if I change my mind or it improves. For one, my game is built in portrait mode and the OF screen came across as a little window in the center of the screen, not like a full length portrait Window as on iPhone and Android.

But the thing that really bugged me was that there was no little “close” X to get rid of the window (like on normal android). It was not very inituitive how to get out of OF. You had to use the little “return” arrow at the bottom of the Nook, and if you navigated that much into OF you had to keep on pressing that arrow until it backed you out into your game - ugh. Wonder Witches is finally in the Nook store:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/wonder-witches-johann-digital-works/1109652726?ean=2940043889225

It’s not yet showing up under the games category but I see it listed under general Apps. Note that there is a slight glitch with the logo, so be careful and consider that B&N is rounding out the edges when you do your submission!

@wunderwuzzi congrats! I just purchased to give you some support :). I will also leave 5 stars ratings. Good luck with the sales.
