OH SWEET GOODNESS!!

Let me just say that as developers, we constantly struggle with buggy code, missing library calls, late asset deliveries, hardware failures… blah blah blah. But sometimes things just go right. In fact, that’s my new tag line for Corona SDK, “things just go right!”

I started coding my game from scratch one week ago. I have never written a .LUA script before, but I have been coding for… well, a long time. I had some graphics and design stuff for this game I’ve been brainstorming on for a few months, and then last week I stumbled across Corona SDK - by total accident. Downloaded the trial, and…

Jump ahead 7 days, and I literally just performed my first test build image and uploaded it to my iPhone and iPad devices. I’m playing my game right now! I have coded this primarily on Windows, used the Simulator for MyTouch device, and just copied the code over to my Mac and ran it on the iPhone & iPad devices in the simulator. No problem. This is an amazing testament to Corona SDK!

I admit, my game is not finished, but the basic gameplay mechanics are in - and it’s $@&!# thrilling!!! My demographic is my little boy and he sat on my lap and was entranced with what was going on. (Good sign!)

I wanted to start a thread where people could just yell from the rooftops and say, “THIS KICKS ASS!” OK, back to work… I need to design a game icon. [import]uid: 74844 topic_id: 12602 reply_id: 312602[/import]

Exactly how I felt when I first tried Corona SDK back in December!! It just gets better!

The perfect song for Ansca to license to promote Corona SDK:

The Knack: “My Corona”

I agree, it is quite magical

Thanks all! We never get tired of hearing this kind of feedback  [import]uid: 26 topic_id: 12602 reply_id: 46147[/import]

That is really funny. When I found out about the Corona SDK back in February I fell in love. It is so much easier than the standard Android API. Good luck on your game!

That’s a wonderful testimonial that I think many of us echo. My game development issues is getting artwork. Corona SDK makes the programming easy. OmniBlaster was playable in a day. Adding in the rest of the stuff to make it marketable (bosses, powerups, help screens, etc.) and testing was right at 2 months. There is no way I could have done that in XCode/Objective C in such a short period of time.

I have a limited programming background - mainly HTML, CSS and PHP - as I work predominantly in print, editorial and branding. But Corona is just fantastically easy! It makes life so simple.

I’ve just come out of a meeting with a client in London with the prospect of developing apps for large corporate clients. I would never have had this chance with Corona! Absolutely no way! Things are looking bright! So much so that my game has been put on the back burner again.

Good luck with your game Jerome82, look forward to seeing it develop!
