Old app on iPhone X aspect ratio

Hi there,

Maybe a stupid question but hopefully someone can help us.

We have an old app (2016), that needs to be updated. The old app scales perfectly on all devices and on iPhone x it shows black sides (left and right) this is basically what we need but the app needs updating.

If we update the app with all necessary things, new icons and some other minor changes everything works fine with the exception of the iPhone X, this scale now and we lose the top and bottom.

The app is complex with a lot of artwork, it is not possible (budget) to make the necessary changes to all the artwork.

Is there a way to have everything working as it did including the black left and right bars on iPhone X?

Any idea?

Can you extend the background art to fill the extra space? If the app is working otherwise, then extending the background should be the only thing you need to do.

Hi Rob,

The current art works fine on almost all devices. It would be unwise to change all the art just to accommodate on type of device , and change the appearance of the others. Or do you mean one of the launchscreen images?

No, I’m referring to the background images in your app. It has to be as big as, if not bigger than the largest screen you want to support.
