On the verge

Hello All,

I have now been playing around with Corona for a few days. It seems good… . However, I have noted a few issues that bother me.

a. There don’t seem to be many responses to questions posted on this forum - not the most active support community I have known.
b. More worrying - the showWebPopUp feature appears to be buggy. I have found this and there are a number of posts I have run into that report this. From what I can see Ansca have gone into “Can’t hear and Don’t care” mode over this.
c. I would really like to test out the Local Notification feature on Android before I commit to buying but am unable to do so.

I am hoping that this post is going to upset some just enough to post a helpful and reassuring answer. [import]uid: 136519 topic_id: 23974 reply_id: 323974[/import]

Interesting. I find this one of the more active support communities.

I’ve not messed with showWebPopUp so I’m not sure about problems with it, but the Ansca staff has a lots of fish to fry so to speak. Right now they are being hammered by Apple related issues which is slowing getting other things fixed. This month alone they’ve had to be side tracked by Apple’s 5.1 requirements of using Xcode 4.3.1 and Lion and having to fix all the changes brought forth by 4.3. Then there was the iPad3 scaling problem which they had to go into emergency mode to fix.

They turned around the text bug in a week. There are other bugs that do take a while to address, but they do get to them.

As for the local notification’s, I’m guessing that’s a daily build feature and not in 704. They haven’t said when, but we are approaching the time they normally release a new public build. You could get the Indie license for Android and then make sure things are happy, and then upgrade to pro later if you’re interested in Nook, Fire and iOS.

Thanks. I have noted at least one other thread today which talks of issues with showWebPopup. I have run into a number of issues

  • Closing a popup with corona:close or the like fails - but not all the time!

  • I tried to close the popup by seding a message back to the Corona app from the popup via PubNub. The message arrives (I checked by putting in a bit of audio) but the popup fails to close even when I call native.cancelWebPopup

  • I thought this might be an issue related to Pubnub so I tried to do the same thing via a timer.performWithDelay statement but with the same result

It is kinda difficult to commit to any kind of license when there are issues such as this and no one from Ansca replies. [import]uid: 136519 topic_id: 23974 reply_id: 96587[/import]

Wait, so you posted your first comment Today at Posted on Tue, 2012-03-27 05:12 and the second at Posted on Tue, 2012-03-27 07:00 … and “I am hoping that this post is going to upset some just enough to post a helpful and reassuring answer.”

believe it or not the two co-founders of ansca scourge and read and answer the forums post unlike any other forum out there where you never hear from the co-founders at all, only from their staff.

and we know about the webpoup issues… we know about them. we also know about the pending UUID debacle with Apple rejecting apps which use UUID calls, and iPad retina, and Amazon Kindle fire builds, and Nook build issues, and our premium support issues…and regular support issues, and newText issues not working with retina iPad and spritesheets not scaling properly on iPad Retina and building against XCode 4.3.1 and not having push notifications on Android or missing Google Maps on Android, or not having integrated the new Box2D engine with rope joints and set velocity threshold and and and and and…

Yes. we know about webpopups issues. They will get fix when we get to them and put out all the other high priority fires which are or could (UUID) prevent our developers from pushing apps to the respective appstores.

Oooouch! Sorry if I upset you so much Carlos. I really didn’t mean to but I am glad to have got an answer anyway. To make a minor correction though - I have rather more than two posts, only not in this forum.

The thing is… I really do like Corona and would love to use it as my main development environment. I think that webpopups are a really neat feature - they offer a great way of getting the best of both worlds: HTML5 web apps and native apps. But it has to work!

I think I am going to have to switch to Titanium for my current project but I look forward to using Corona soon - once the issues with webpopups has been fixed.

Make no mistakes - I think Corona is really neat and you deserve a round of applause for all your efforts thus far. [import]uid: 136519 topic_id: 23974 reply_id: 96814[/import]

Nah. … I was just on the verge

Cheers
