OUCH..Is there a workaround to support iPad Retina and not lose support for older iOS?

Well I heard many people upset that Corona was not going to support iOS below 4.3 I believe (may be wrong on the actual version). I used the daily builds up until they dropped support for older iOS. Once the new iPad came out I figured it was time to make the switch. HUGE MISTAKE money wise. Our downloads plummeted from day one of the new version coming out. Ad money went from $20-$40 a day down to not even making $10. Daily sales went from 20+ to not even hitting 10 except maybe on a Saturday or Sunday.

There is no way to go back. Apple will not accept an update that goes back and I can not split it up into an iPhone and iPad version since the current version is universal. Is there anyway to support Retina and still use earlier builds? This is killing our revenue big time and now that I see the consequences of it I am very surprised this has not been a main concern. This all started the day the iPad Retina support version of our games was released. Ad money alone is going from over $1000 a month to not even going to make $250 a month. Sales are down to 1/4th of what they were before.

Any workaround on this would be greatly appreciated. I believe folks using the latest daily builds have no idea of potential downloads they are missing out on. I would have never believed it was this bad until I got to see it first hand.

Thanks so much,

@Gary ,

Sorry for hearing that.

By the way, did you use/build some app using the latest Corona stable build called (2012.704b) ?

I ask because am using ONLY that one because that does support ARMv6 and also ARMv7 (below 4.3 iOS version) devices, and so I believe that by this way you would kept your “market” bigger as you used to, no?

PS: But be sure that using that stable version you`re going to lose all the daily builds gifts anyway. :\

Cheers,

@Gary: I too is very sorry for the huge loss of revenue! Thank you so much for sharing so other people get warned. That was very classy of you.

I am also wondering about which build to use and your story is really sobering. I know that version 704b (which is not called that but it is the stable version that can run <4.3 and ipad retina) can be found here:

http://developer.anscamobile.com/release/2011/704

(Please note that for some reason it is only for mac OS unlike all the other builds)
There is also good conversation here:

Did you revenue went down across all your apps or just few of them? Do you have an idea of the breakdown of devices/OS that people uses when running your app? I am wondering if you should implement “flury” which i think gives you statistics. Not sure if it gives the OS/type devices so take my suggestion is a big grain of salt. I am very surprise that your revenue went down so much unless most of your customers were running OS<4.3 I guess your apps run fine on those older models.

Again, I am very sorry for the revenue drop. It is a big hit. Maybe you can release the same apps with a different name using the version 704b.

Good luck and thank you so much for the warning.
