PayPal Plugin Acceptable Use Cases

Hi,

I would like to start this thread to house accepted & rejected use cases of how we use the PayPal plugin in our apps and whether Apple/Google/Amazon/Samsung etc approve or reject the app when submitted to the respective stores. I would appreciate if you could over time come here and share your experience so that other developers planning to use the PayPal plugin in a similar area know what to expect and make course corrections.

Thank you very much in advance for information you share and best of luck in your implementation.

Regards,

Kerem

As lame as it might seem, I’ll get the ball rolling submitting a use case by responding to the thread I just started. :)

I am planning to include a “Donate” button in a festival & event management app I created, supporting a non-profit organization. The NPO in question did not have a way to generate revenues through the app in the past since Apple did not allow non-profit donations to be processed through in-app sales etc. They are very excited with the prospect of being able to open up another revenue stream.

Anyone have any experiences with collecting Donations in mobile apps via PayPal? I am guessing this will be an approvable use case for the app stores. Fingers crossed.

Hey Karem.

From our research, we found that you are allowed to use PayPal in your app for the purchase of physical goods and also services.

We have not looked into donations however, so if anyone has any info on that, we would be interested to hear it!

Thanks

Thanks much for your input. I suspect a Donate button that channels money to the developer of an app would be an instant reject case but in my use case Donate will give the money to a third party and a NPO at that so my logic says it should be ok. We’ll see what Apple’s logic says!

Well Apple won’t let you use PayPal for donations:

unsure about the other services.

Ouch! Thanks much for thank find. Sure will save me some time avoiding that rejection. I think my NPO will get into the business of “selling” some postcards in return for some money collected through my app then…

Just link to a website with the donate button.

Yup. Thats probably going to be how it ends up working. Oh well… I’m sure I will have other good use cases for this shiny new plugin.
