Performance issues depending on SDK target

I just released my first Android app, ASCII Invaders, to the Market I wanted to share a performance issue I noticed just prior to release.

I have been doing my hardware testing on the original Motorola Droid with OS version 2.2 installed.

Though my app has a retro 80’s classic computer look, it has a lot of independent moving graphics and performance has been an issued from the beginning. After a lot of tweaking I was able to very decent performance, but only when I built for SDK 2.01 or 2.2. If I built it for 1.6, there was a significant performance drop-off when testing on my Droid. I’ve been using the final 2.0 release of Corona. So if your running into performance issues, too, try a different SDK target and see what happens.
