Performance of physics.* Vs. transition.* Vs. timer

I have noticed that sprite movements created through the physics and transition class are smooth.

However, if I try to create movements with manually altering X and Y positions of a sprite with timer.performWithDelay(1000/60, onEvent, 0), different conditions seem to apply.

Movements become unattractively jerky, in particular on weaker Android phones.

Is this “just the way it is” on Corona, that you have to rely on physics and transitions to have any hope of smooth sprite movements?

You might want to try a Runtime movement method, just to test. A recent tutorial on the subject can be found here:
