Physics-heavy game distribution release - use latest daily build or latest stable?

Hi,

I am prepping dev for Blendamaze which is a physics-heavy game… using the latest stable build (840) lately which is great. Just wondering if there is a benefit to using the latest daily build (877 or greater) for distribution to the App Store - or if it’s safe to go that route anyway. I thought I’d seen some info about a Box2D update - wasn’t sure if this is a huge improvement or just a maintenance release.

Thoughts/recommendations most appreciated!

thanks,
Nate

IMO, if you are close to release stick with whatever version you have been using. If I was just starting a project or had a long way to go I’d update as I would assume any issues would come up before my app hits the store.

That’s what I’m thinking… be on the safe side  Just so many updates and looks like some bug fixes since v840. Will jump to the daily builds post launch in prep for the next version.

thanks! [import]uid: 131038 topic_id: 29707 reply_id: 119307[/import]

If I were you I would be very cautious in upgrading to the latest build. For one of my new physics heavy games, I coded it in build .870, the physics worked perfectly. A few days back i upgraded to build .876 and the physics are working like crap now! After reading the build release notes i see that box2d has been upgraded to 2.2.1 and I gues this is the issue. Not sure exactly what has been changed in the new version of box2d but it definitely messes up my game physics to the point of being unplayable now, hence i had to downgrade back to build .870.
Is someone able to point to a page that clearly explains the new changes that box2d 2.2.1 brings as its still not clearly mentioned in the resource docs. [import]uid: 66228 topic_id: 29707 reply_id: 119317[/import]

Hey jacques, thanks for the insight! I was wondering about that with Box 2D… wasn’t sure if it was a major performance upgrade or just a maintenance release, and even if so, was it tested and working good with Corona. My game has been working great in v840 and I’ll plan on releasing with that and hopefully there will be some improvements to the Box 2D integration here soon. I was noticing that too about the release notes and short summary since latest stable build are often incomplete. I’d sure love to see that too a more thorough explanation of what’s changed since v840… [import]uid: 131038 topic_id: 29707 reply_id: 119318[/import]
