Placing your app in the Newsstand

Placing your app in the Newsstand is an easy and at the same time a difficult task. It is easy because Apple allow you to set some plist settings and Voila!! It shows up in the Newsstand, but it is complicated as developers do not have the ability to use the NewsstandKit API’s (NK…) in CoronaSDK. Now if some of those functions were wrapped into the Corona Builds, Newsstand apps would be easy to make.

Till then if you want to see your app in the Newsstand with a Magazine/Newspaper type look and custom Icon, here’s an article to do so

Why would one want to do this?

No one I know uses their Newsstand for anything. It’s quite trendy to hide it inside a folder so the empty Newsstand is not visible. If you do a Google search you’ll find most people’s opinions of the Newsstand feature are negative.

And you cannot move an app that has been published for Newsstand outside of Newsstand or vice versa. So you’re preventing the user - unless you have figured out who in the world uses the Newsstand and are targeting that demographic - from putting your app in the folder of their preference. @Green.Castle, you are right, why would anyone want anything else, Bill Gates had asked why would anyone want more than 640KB or RAM.

Because some users hide their newsstand, why should anyone look at that as an opportunity, let us just ignore that because some devs did not get their heads around the new technology.

I believe that you read up on what is a Newsstand App and what it is for. It is definitely not to place a game into. [import]uid: 3826 topic_id: 22742 reply_id: 90825[/import]

What a needlessly bitter, sarcastic response to what I intended as an honest question.

I see you’re no stranger to bitter, sarcastic posts. Having checked out your blog, I found this scathing gem: http://howto.oz-apps.com/2012/02/coronasdk-might-be-good-but.html

So at what point exactly did you “draw the line in any dealings with this organisation”? Or are you just here to troll now? [import]uid: 70391 topic_id: 22742 reply_id: 90830[/import]

There would be no point responding to someone that would not understand.

BTW, I failed to see your question in the original post, I thought you had an opinion that you put forward (twice).

And I was offering some advice to the community, where as I fail to see your contribution here. [import]uid: 3826 topic_id: 22742 reply_id: 90833[/import]

“There would be no point responding to someone that would not understand.”
Arrogance.

“BTW, I failed to see your question in the original post”
How about the very first line, the one with the question mark after it?

“And I was offering some advice to the community, where as I fail to see your contribution here.”
Explain what advice you are offering to the community besides giving a link to your blog where you slam Corona and promote competing products. [import]uid: 70391 topic_id: 22742 reply_id: 90841[/import]
