Plain SDK apps with Game Edition?

Hi,

Can you develop regular Corona SDK apps with the Game Edition, or do you need the SDK version also? [import]uid: 9936 topic_id: 2617 reply_id: 302617[/import]

Currently, you need to have the SDK version as well. We’re looking at how to make this easier.

Huh? Why does someone need the SDK version as well? Please explain the difference regarding plain apps. ANSCA MOBILE has always stated that the game edition is the SDK enhanced by a few other things which are agme related. From what Eric nows said, I take it that ANSCA MOBILE has stripped out functionality of the Game Edition, that is only available in the SDK version.

Or did it ment that there is no way to exclude OpenFeint, Physics and SpriteSheets from the build. [import]uid: 5712 topic_id: 2617 reply_id: 7526[/import]

If you do a build with the Game Edition simulator, then OpenFeint, Physics, and the Sprite engine are included, which raises the size of the resulting app significantly. To exclude these, do the build with the SDK simulator. [import]uid: 54 topic_id: 2617 reply_id: 7531[/import]

If I may, I think the question was “can you” as opposed to “is it wiser” - which the answer to the latter is no, because - as Eric says - the extra libraries are included and increase the build output size. However, the answer to the former, “can you”, is yes - very easily

I was definitely asking “can you”. I don’t really want to purchase 2 sdks, one for regular apps and another for games. That would be ridiculous.

It would be great if you could exclude the game related libraries when you compile, as an example, a utility-type application. This should be a #1 feature…in my opinion of course

Thanks!

I have a GE license and don’t have any problem building regular, non-game, apps. I’ve downloaded both SDKs and when they run the first time I enter my details, they check against the server and hey presto, I can build in either version. Hope that helps. Does that mean that if I purchase the GE license I can also download and use the regular sdk?

If so, then that is awesome. I have no problem with that. [import]uid: 9936 topic_id: 2617 reply_id: 7594[/import]

That’s what I’ve been doing. [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 2617 reply_id: 7720[/import]
