This is a problem with a number of API elements as well as Corona Labs plugins. They implement something half-baked, get us all excited and then leave us waiting for the rest for ages… Quick examples off the top of my head : 

  • mapView API - numerous issues - no buttons on bubbles etc.
  • Zip plugin - no password
  • webView - poor orientation support
  • Addressbook - issue outlined above + no Android support
  • QuickLook - IOS only.
  • Widgets - oh well. not even going to touch that one… 
  • camera textures - no front camera support

One can only wish Corona Labs would not chase new pastures every other week but actually try and deliver quality API & Plugins that we can depend on. I don’t think we should be asked to submit feature requests for half baked stuff which should have never seen the light of day in the form they were delivered with promises for more features to come later. Really getting tired of this problem.

Anyways, not trying to take the thread off topic but you sure hit a sore spot…

I would love to see a more robust video solution.

Wishlist:

  • Cross platform format

  • Slowmotion play back

  • Upload to youtube account

  • Thumbnails

  • Stored in device media library not DocumentsDirectory of app

  • url to access video from Media Library

  • Boolean test to see if video at URL still exists in library

 

Sure a bunch of other nice things but i’d pay a couple hundred for this kind of plugin.

How about a plugin that allows uploading of binary files?  Probably Corona’s worst failing… Just do a search of the forums and you’ll see everybody wants one…

I almost forgot! NEXTPEER! I am not sure if that possible using a plugin but it will make a lot of sense since Nextpeer has already a lot of palyers that are familiar with the system. It will also solve the chicken/egg issue with other multiplayer APi since you need a lot of people in the network so your game get more successful.

We could do this, but we don’t want to step on Corona’s toes. If tons of people wanted this, and Corona had other priorities and were happy for us to make our own, then sure.

I’m curious as to how much stuff you guys believe is missing from the mapview. Just trying to get a sense on what guys are after.
