I don’t know anything about Appcelerator, but we had created two games with GameSalad before discovering Corona. Performance was horrible, and lack of social features lead me to find Corona.
I “ported” the games over and they ended up being 100x better than the original GameSalad versions. I also didn’t have any experience with Lua prior to downloading Corona (and I picked it up VERY quickly, that’s how simple it is).
Like I said, I don’t know anything about Appcelerator, but I do know that it’s easy to re-create existing apps using Corona. You most-likely won’t be able to re-use your old code, but the logic should be the same, as well as your graphics resources.
It’s ultimately up to the developer, but “commercial quality” is more than a possibility with Corona.
You can read about my experiences going from GameSalad to Corona here:

Also, from an “outsiders” opinion of Corona, you can read the review I posted to my personal blog:

I hope all that helps! I’m a little biased obviously, but I think Corona is definitely worth a shot. Put forth a good effort in the free 30-Day trial and I’m sure you’ll see what I’m talking about (in fact, that’s exactly what I did–I downloaded the trial, and it won me over).
