I like “Powered by Corona SDK”
“Powered by Corona Labs” was fine, but it is the name of the company, not the product.

The product is just called “Corona” now and not “Corona SDK”, so just “Powered by Corona”.
@Rob For now it’s only in the splash screen, but if people hadn’t brought it up here then perhaps it would’ve made it’s way into other places such as the website. Then it would have an impact on SEO so I think it’s worth mentioning here.
It’s not “with LÖVE” i.e. some other product.
True. But given that it is the name of a direct competitor (that uses the same language) that appears higher in a google search of 2d game engines, it’s reasonable to assume that it’s more widely known and so it would be easy for someone to think that Corona is something that was built using LÖVE.
Admittedly the smallest bit or investigation would make it clear that’s not the case, but I thought I’d play devil’s advocate on the subject
Powered by Corona is what I usually am during a football game on Sunday afternoons.
Yes, let us not forget the beer, which I’d imagine has powered some amount of game development.

It still bothers me that corona sdk is now just corona. It really hurt search visablity and brand.
Man asks: “What engine do you use?”
Developer says: “corona”
Man search “corona” on google later and only finds corona beer pages.
I don’t know who’s idea it was to change the name but I bet it was a foreign corona staff member who does not know corona is North America beer.
In terms of the splash screen:
I don’t understand why corona does not copy unity’s splash screen. With “Made with Corona Sdk” (or corona framework).
https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/class-PlayerSettingsSplashScreen.html
We are going to drop the “with love” from the splash screen in the next public build.
We hear you about the branding change, however, we felt that “SDK” was too limiting. The name “Corona” and our use of it was vetted through our trademark lawyers. I understand that it appears to be bad from an SEO perspective, but I would hope we are ranking on keyword searches where people are looking for “game frameworks” “2d game engines” etc. Beer companies won’t show up there.
If you’re specifically searching for Corona, I would hope most people (at least here in the US) would understand that if they know what Corona is (the 2d engine), they would either skip the beer hits (and the references to the sun’s Corona, or one of the 12 other definitions: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/corona) or refine their search criteria to “Corona game engine” or “Corona framework” or similar.
Rob
I didn’t mind the old one. The powered with love is/was a little strange but no complaints so far from any of my users (and trust me I get enough random complaints about colors, buttons and other random things that have nothing to do with the gameplay). Just have to remember when I get that error on the next native build that it is time to switch out the image again.
Last time I checked (3-5 months ago) the free version had “Personal Edition” below “Made with Unity” which added quite a bit of extra incentive to pay for the Plus version. Similar to “with love” but without the cheesiness. Just less “pro”
I’ve never really considered releasing something with the default screen but I actually liked the previous “Made with Corona Labs” when I saw it. It was clean and with less potential to ruin the visual consistency of the app compared to Unity’s ugly gradients.
I think the splash screen’s main point of value is to attract people to Corona, who don’t know Corona yet (or hardly).
As such, I think it would be good to add, as they do in marketing, express a benefit and/or reason to believe. And to pull in new users, it’s probably a good idea to talk about how easy it is for beginners - while still being great for power user.
So, why not say something like:
Powered by Corona
Hi the above forum entries mention corny and cringeworthy. I’ve sadly had the same experience, every serious developer I show my apps to when I’m trying to get them to convert to Corona, made a face when they saw the splash screen. It starts the app off on the wrong foot since it’s the first impression. Please change it back to ‘powered by corona sdk’. That looked a lot more hardcode and professional… like we’d see in console games…
The feedback I’m always given is ‘With love’ is just too campy (most definitely for business apps)
Corona is an amazingly impressive platform, it’s hard for people to take it seriously as a hardcode gaming platform when it’s showing us love
It just doesn’t go together with the image of a harcore gamimg platform (it pushes it down a few levels in developers’ perception)
Please have a survey if need be, then please strongly consider changing it back. I think most developers will agree. The ones I showed it to do. (or, very worst case, please give us a choice between the two so we can use with love maybe on the kids games, and powered by corona on the business apps and more hardcode games) Thanks so much, we appreciate your consideration of this.
Hmmm, sorry i missed it the first time around… on reading the next page of forum entries for this topic I see Rob mentioned the ‘with love’ may be removed in the next release? so maybe this is already done? If so, thank you so much!!
The “with love” was removed in the last public release (2017.3184) and later daily builds.
Please update to 3184 or later.
Thanks
Rob
Will do. Thanks! sorry I missed that post. You guys are awesome
I sort of miss the love now. I do casual games. “love” get it a softer feeling.
ouch, thats kinda corny, hope its work in progress
That’s actually a pretty clever way to sell more splash screen plugins.

… And to make fun of your own brand.
not really =P
it’s cool
