"Powered with love ..."?

Was doing some on device testing and noticed the splash screen text changed from “Powered by Corona Labs” to “Powered with love by CoronaLabs”.

Just in the way of feedback, … I think that’s sounds kinda corny.

But maybe that’s just my cold heart speaking  :stuck_out_tongue:

But seriously, while the “Powered by Corona Labs” was fine, and would even consider leaving it in, the current text? … Nah.

Planning to purchase the splash screen plugin regardless, so again … just some feedback.

ouch, thats kinda corny, hope its work in progress

That’s actually a pretty clever way to sell more splash screen plugins.

… And to make fun of your own brand.

… and to make people thing of a competing 2D game framwork…

not really =P

it’s cool

Love2D is already trouncing Corona in the SEO stakes - probably not a good idea to give them even more of a push!

Hi,

Unless something has changed recently, good luck deploying a Love2D app to a mobile device in any capacity that Corona can.

Perhaps someone from Corona can shed a light as to why this has happened and if it is a permanent change?

Well, quite. But that doesn’t change the fact that a google search for ‘2D Game Engine’ will show Love2D and many other inferior engines on page 1 with Corona hiding away on page 2 or 3.

Corona will only succeed long-term if people know about it. My overwhelming experience of meeting people at conference, meetups and interviews over the past six years is that virtually no-one does. I just landed a contracting role with a mobile game development firm with a turnover of over $20m. Surprise, surprise, they hadn’t heard of Corona, even though it would be perfect for the sort of games they make.

I agree this is somewhat subjective, but the “with love” part makes the whole message outright cringeworthy and makes one wonder what Corona’s target audience is.

Hi,

@nick I’m in complete agreement with you, and not being a SEO specialist, I can only imagine it’s a difficult thing to do, especially when going against open source projects, which generally proliferate well on their own merits.

My comment was mostly a reminder, or perhaps a warning, that Love2D being more “known” by the search engines does not make it a competing, nor superior product.

Honestly, I think the best Corona could do as far a communication goes is have a video landing page like this one:

https://y.co/

That page should show all the coolest games made with Corona running at full blast, interspersed with some footage of people developing and doing cool stuff (like particle emitter testing). Really a missed opportunity in the last redesign of the site, as nothing convinces potential devs like seeing cool visuals of what theycould do.

I second thomas6 idea above.

The new corona design leaves much to be wanted and personally I struggle with seing it as an improvement over the old, more established one.

Perhaps its in the loop and we dont know about it

I wasn’t involved in the decision to change the wording on the splash screen, so I can only provide conjuncture. I know many of you complained that you didn’t like the previous one, so perhaps this was an attempt to make the splash screen more friendly. Since I wasn’t involved, I have no clue if we considered our competitor or not. However “with love” means we care. It’s not “with LÖVE” i.e. some other product. The splash screen is a graphic embedded in your app, so it’s never going to get picked up by any SEO.

Is it permanent? It’s software, we can always change it. Will we? Who knows. I’ve already brought the “community dislike” of this up to the team, but I’ll probably have to bring it back up again.

What do you want it to say?

Rob

thomas6 might be onto something. The more ppl developing on this platform the better for all of us.

This thread will be picked up by search engines though…

Just seems like you guys need to stop messing around with random stuff like this and get out there (real world and online) and market the damn thing. Show people what it can do.

Thomas has a good suggestion for the site, but that’s pointless if there’s low traffic in the first place.

Well that spiralled out of control quickly

It’s only a splash screen. Maybe a positive constructive separate thread about marketing might be a better option.

Hi Rob,

What could possibly be wrong with “Powered by Corona Labs” or perhaps “Powered by Corona SDK”, since its all one product now

The “with love” part though feels cheezy and lacks corporate credibility.
