Preventing touch event having phase = "ended" when finger leaves screen

I am working on a snooker type game using the standard sdk that involves touching an object then whilst the finger is held down rotating another object (the cue) based on the angle of the position of the finger in relation to the object touched.

I have just realised that when the finger is dragged off the screen the touch event is registered as ending with a phase = “ended”

Any idea if there is a workaround for this? Ideally I want the rotation of the cue to continue until the player lifts their finger whilst on screen. I guess however if they drag it off screen, then if they drag it back on again, it would recognise it as a new touch event.

Any suggestions most appreciated.
