publishing to an App Store with Free Corona SDK?

I am taking a class to learn Corona and this is what it says in the introduction. Is that correct?

“The Corona SDK framework is a commercial tool, but they have an unlimited FREE trial version available. The only thing you can’t do with the trial is to publish a finished game to the App Store, but you can do the entire development process without paying a dime, which makes it an awesome choice for learning.”

So, I guess what I want to know is if I can make APK files with corona and tryout games I am making on my phone.

since they changed the price of pro and introduced the free starter version you can publish to the appstore as well now without paying anything. (except the appstore fee) And yes, you can make apk files to try on the phone.
