Question about IOS development & Windows trial

Hello all-

I just installed the Corona trial today, as my 8-year old son would like to start learning code to develop games for his iTouch.

I am an Android user, so Corona seemed like a good choice to use
I downloaded the trial today for Windows, but noticed that it seems you can only develop for Android with it (?)

Do we need an Apple computer to develop for his iTouch?

Or can you develop on a Windows machine for both IOS & Android if you get a subscription version?

I’m hoping to be able to develop for his iTouch to keep him engaged, but all my computers are Windows
Please advise!

Thanks for your help

Hi!

Yes, you do need to have a mac computer to develop a iOS apps. Also you will need Apple developer license to start testing apps on iTouch. [import]uid: 64009 topic_id: 16107 reply_id: 59882[/import]

To develop you can develop on the Windows machine without any issues. However to build for the iOS, you will need a mac, the cheapest mac would be a mac mini that can be used to *just* compile if you do not want to use anything other than windows. You could also set it up as a monitor-less machine and use it via SSH/VPN, etc

You can also try the Hack-in-to-sh option on your windows device.

cheers,

Hackintosh version works perfectly fine if you have a legit mac os version. (It only costs $30). [import]uid: 46343 topic_id: 16107 reply_id: 59920[/import]

Hi Guys-

Thanks for the info.

I am not familiar with “hackintosh” but I will research it now- can you provide me any more info on what it is, and how you use it?

I assume the issue here is just the compiling part for IOS.

If I am correct, we can develop apps in the simulator, but will need a Mac or “hackintosh” on Windows to get it compiled for IOS use… (?)

Do I have that right? [import]uid: 96300 topic_id: 16107 reply_id: 59947[/import]

As a followup, could I develop on a Windows machine, and then take the files over to a friend’s with an Apple computer and do the compiling there?

I’m trying to avoid having to buy a computer just to compile an app hahaha [import]uid: 96300 topic_id: 16107 reply_id: 59949[/import]

@beatle66: Yes you could transfer the files to a friends macintosh but remember to get the ios subscription also. Adding to that you will also need a IOS developer subscription. [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 16107 reply_id: 59969[/import]
