Question about xcode builds and ios version compatability

I used Xcode version 4.5.1 and Corona 2012.894 to build my app.
But I could not transfer my App to my development iPad that was using iOS 6.1.
The os version was not recognized by xCode.

If I build using this version of xCode and submit to the App store, does this mean that anyone with iOS 6.1 greater on there iPad cannot install my app?

I think you would be okay. You just won’t have any iOS 6 type features like the native twitter app, but then you wouldn’t anyway since it’s not in build 894. That message would seem to indicate that your XCode won’t recognize your device, so it can’t do development activities with it.

That said, 971 is the current public build and are over 60 daily builds since then. 894 is pretty old. But moving up will require upgrading your xcode which may require an OS upgrade. [import]uid: 199310 topic_id: 36459 reply_id: 144748[/import]

Thank you for the quick response,

I didnt mean to say that the OS version wasn’t recognized, it was. There was a message under Xcode organizer window for the iPad that sad the tool was not compatible with the version of iOS installed on the iPad. The message said to revert to a previous version of iOS from a backup.

It would appear that you can build your app with any version of Xcode compatible with the version of the Corona tool you are using but you cannot install that development build to an iPad unless the version of Xcode you use to install it with is current enough to be compatible with the version of the operating system. I guess as long as you have the newest version of Xcode installed this would never be a problem.

To verify this is true, try to use an install of Xcode 4.5.1 to install a build to an iPad running iOS 6.1

After I downloaded the new version of Xcode 4.6 it allowed me to transfer the build over, even though it was built with a previous version of Xcode 5.1.
The following dependencies are the ones that I need to consider for development

Corona Tool requires versions of OS, iOS and Xcode
Xcode requires versions of OS and iOS (for transfer)

I had similar issues - getting random provisioning profile errors when trying to move the app to a device. I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and am now using xcode 4.6 (both off the AppStore).

I’m using Corona 971 and all my builds now work absolutely fine to both iOS 6 and pre-iOS 6 devices. [import]uid: 82595 topic_id: 36459 reply_id: 145482[/import]
