question on animation of movement

Hello,

I’m developing a game for the first time and I have a lot to learn I see. I’m having trouble trying to learn how I can make animation, like when my toon walks across the screen how would I make his legs move to make it look as If he is walking. I saw that a program named adobe flash is used for that, is there a good video I could checkout to see how exactly it works? I checked YouTube and all I saw was the old way of making stick figure clips like I use to back in the day using paint.

Would this basically be the way to do it?

Actually, there are many ways to make animated sprites and animations in general.

I would suggest Spine coupled with some 2D art program like Gimp, Paint Shop Pro, or Photo Shop.

Would adobe illustrator be ok for creating 2D art also? And could i use spine for all my animations, even making fire animation? Seems like its more for walking.

Sure.  Illustrator is fine.  Export to PNG and you’ll be golden.

With Spine, will I be able to make rocket animation. Spine seems to be only for “Spine” characters with legs, arms, while say making a slug slither across the screen doesn’t seem possible from what i saw in the spine video tutorials.
