I converted all of my newRetinaText to newText, and I started seeing a warning on simulator that starts off like this: WARNING: Due to system limitations, display.newText() width is going to be…. I’m currently using Daily Build 776. (I might switch over to 781, but I think this warning will still be there.)
I googled, and only place this warning is mentioned seem to be under this blog post: http://blog.anscamobile.com/2011/10/multiple-lines-in-display-newtext/
If there are other Forum posts/threads that talk about this warning, please let me know.
Meanwhile, here’s what I found and am wondering:
-
This warning appears on Simulator only when I’m viewing my game as Kindle Fire, Nook Color or Galaxy Tab. (No other device on Simulator triggers this warning on terminal.)
-
My game works fine when installed on Kindle and Nook Tablet, but maybe with a bit of lag compared to iOS device or Galaxy 2S. But my game isn’t text heavy. I don’t have access to Nook Color or Galaxy Tab, so I don’t know how it may perform on them.
-
I’m wondering if the lag noted above is caused by the warning, or it has nothing to do with it. If the lag is purely based on the fact these devices are under-powered, there really isn’t much we can do about it. However, if it is something to do with the warning, I feel like I should at least try and see if I can find a workaround for my game.
