Questions: New Corona Windows 8 platform support

Windows build capability makes it so much easier (for my project at least) to try crowdfunding, submit to IGF and festivals, etc.  But a clearer understanding of the timing of the public release would really be helpful when discussing Corona SDK with potential partners (as well as let me sleep easier).

If we’re looking at a Beta in Q1 2014, are we looking at full public release by Q2?

I’d also like to know if the games will be somehow locked to the Windows Store (if MSFT is somehow funding/partnering, I’d understand if they want their store to have preference).  If not, will builds be able to use the Steamworks SDK (through Enterprise upgrade, or a plugin)?

Any info appreciated!

My guess is that this doesn’t mean a strict PC release, but instead a Windows Store executable (ARM/x86), ergo locked to Windows 8/Surface devices. Straight-up PC or Steam would be great but I’d be surprised if it was on the horizon.

Makes sense.  I can understand and accept no Steam.  But ouch.  No Win 7…

So close, and yet so far…

My understanding is that we will not be building win32 executables.  These will be Metro type apps for Windows Phone (.appx files) and things sold through the Window’s store.

Thanks for the info Rob!

Are there any estimates of when Windows Phone 8 / Windows 8 support will become available?

I think we were targeting late 1Q14, but don’t hold me to that.

Rob

I am *really* looking forward to that. Always wanted to port some of my apps to Win8 but never had time for that. If Corona will allow me to simply do another build for Win8, that will be a real treat!

Just keep in mind, this is for Windows Phone and Apps sold through the Microsoft Store (runs in the metro interface), it will not build win32 executables.

Rob

That’s *exactly* what I need!

Thanks,

Alex

Any updates on Windows 8 support, is this already out, or coming soon?
