Read To Me (Book Application)

How do people create a Read To Me on E-books? Do they Record someone
talking then when you get to that page you play that audio? like playing
a sound fx or music on an app. Or is there a method to implementing for example
the voice on google translate when you type something it reads it for you.

Any advice on how you would create a Read To Me on an E-book? [import]uid: 30314 topic_id: 17135 reply_id: 317135[/import]

there is a wonderful article/code by David Fox, a veteran in the video game industry, that made the Be Confident - Middle School amazing eBook. You can see the code that preceded his experiments with this feature on Code Exchange

Thanks You are always very helpful I really appreciate it. Is this the link you
refer too? I tried following your advice and I came across this and it seems
very interesting going to have to take a look at it!

Question: I checked out the Demo on the Simulator and read all
the comments on the code exchange and forum related to this
topic, I see he used Audacity but my question is who records
the narration ? Do you have to do it yourself and record it using
Audacity or do you type the text and a voice speaks that word
like google translate? [import]uid: 30314 topic_id: 17135 reply_id: 64470[/import]

Narration should always be recorded professionally by a professional voiceover artist/actor - don’t underestimate the skill involved. It’s not normally expensive and it transforms the end results. I’m amazed by how many otherwise professional interactive books are ruined by the developer thinking they could read the script themselves - get it done professionally and you won’t regret it.

And no, I am not a voiceover artist! But I’ve worked in the development of interactive media for a LONG time. [import]uid: 95579 topic_id: 17135 reply_id: 64473[/import]

Yes that is the one that I was referring to. David has bettered his core routines in the final app, but has been kind to publish his initial experiments.

If you have a voice like that of a voice-over artist and can be confident of using that in a final product, then go all out by all means. If you are making online videos, then using text to speech is an acceptable option, BTW the Mac has some amazing list of options.

try running this on the terminal

say "I did not know that"

Thanks for advice I dont doubt that a professional voice over artist would
get the job done and would make the job look very professional. But honestly
that will require more time looking for an artist , I dont know how much they
charge and this is my first book so I was trying to go over text input speech.
But ill keep your advice in mind if the results I get are not great !

Thanks again for help and that mac terminal voice is pretty cool lol did not
know my terminal can speak. How will you do a clean recording from the
terminal voice? [import]uid: 30314 topic_id: 17135 reply_id: 64541[/import]
