Recommendation for Android test device

Having just submitted my iPhone/iPad game for review I was going to have a stab at releasing an Android version.

I don’t have any android devices and was thinking it is probably wise and necessary to get a device for testing. Can anyone recommend a device suitable for testing. I want to spend as little as possible as this will be used only for testing. I am in the UK just in case that has any relevance. [import]uid: 7863 topic_id: 8346 reply_id: 308346[/import]

I am not big on Android however I have had a play and remade two apps for it.

I’ve got a LG Optimus One - it’s pretty mid-range and it does struggle with some of the more intense games, however that was what I was looking for as testing on a super powered device doesn’t give you a good idea of how the majority of phones will run your app.

Anyway, check out the specs for yourself and see if it is what you’re after; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LG-P500-optimus-one-/150586073203?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item230fa12073

They seem to go for more there than here, but that one has 22 hours left and is at £50 right now with only two bids. (New, not used.)

Maybe worth a look

Watch out. I think the LG Optimus One is an ARMv6 based chip (ARM11 which is a dual-core ARMv6). We’ve already made the announcement that we are only supporting ARMv7 (NEON) moving forward. (ARMv6 has already been stripped from the current daily builds.)

I asked Google the same question asked here. They told me they use Nexus Ones and Nexus S’s for development and then go out and buy the most popular devices for testing. Not a very satisfying answer I know.

Hi,

I have an LG Optimus One P500, and I yes it does have an ARMv6 chip which saddens me, but that’s all my budget could afford that I found pretty decent. The phone’s not bad, but the game I made in Corona does lag on it, badly. It even crashes from time to time. It doesn’t act like that on the Corona Simulator. My game wasn’t even that graphic heavy at that time, and it’s a lot worst now when I actually had the graphics.

Nonetheless, does this mean that I won’t be able to test on my phone anymore? I mean, I know it has major performance issues but that shouldn’t stop me from having a feel of playing the game. I’m not a subscribers so I don’t get the daily builds. [import]uid: 45459 topic_id: 8346 reply_id: 31020[/import]

Thanks for the replies - guess I will have to hope for the best on Ebay.

i think a safe choice would be an HTC desire (not the HD, the old one). I’m using one for my tests. [import]uid: 44010 topic_id: 8346 reply_id: 31123[/import]
